Any reason to call animals out from coop/barn?

Back then I played Harvest Moon and if you let the animals out during sunny day, it will increase its affection meter and also if im not mistaken you do not need to feed them provided you planted grass for cows/sheep, chicken will somehow 'find' their own food. Im wondering, is it the same in this game? I just manage to get my chicken coop.

Thx, sorry maybe the title was abit misleading, ive edited it. Any reason to let animals out? Perhaps will gain more affection levels?

Chickens atleast, haven't eaten since I let them out. I think for cows you need some grass in their enclosure and then they won't need food either.

I guess its confirmed then they (chickens) will somehow 'find' their own food if we let them out. Thank you for the reply :D
