Upgrading crops vs fertiliser
I’m just in the process of getting my crops to level 2 silver quality does that mean that fertiliser in this game sort of becomes useless at this point or does having silver level 2 crops and also adding level 1 fertilisers make much difference?

Using fertiliser increases the chances of harvesting gold and purple quality crops.

Another good way to boost crop value, is to visit the Lab and purchace seed upgrades (even hay upgrades in time when you can afford it).

sorry i must have not made it clear ive been to the lab and got all my seeds to bronze level and now have most of the seeds to silver level im just waiting for the silver essence to finish then i will have all seeds and hay to silver level from the lab, thats why i was asking do i still need to use fertilizer now that i have all my seeds to silver level from the lab

To my understanding, Upgrade Seeds gives a Better CHANCE to get better crops. e.g. Gold upgrade I still get normal-copper-silver produces but I get less of them, so upgrade AND fertilizer gives you a better chance to get high quality crops. They should stack to each other
obs: I'm curios about the % chance of upgrade/fertilizer affect on the crops

Sorry to bump, but does anyone know if fertilizer affects plants that regrow crops? I know it doesn't work on saplings and fruit trees, but wondering if it'll work on my strawberries if I plant them in the greenhouse since the fertlizer then doesn't wear off between seasons.

Definitely yes. I spend a lot of valuable resources making osmium fertiliser for my greenhouse, which I exclusively populate with crops that give repeating harvests. The fertiliser lasts forever, unless you need to remove the crop and put another one in it's place.

I also put my fruit plants in there as they benefit from fertiliser too. Not saplings though, they are best outside as they don't need watering and don't respond to fertiliser.

I have every seed at last level on the lab and use the osmiun fertilizer and STILL get many non-osmium crops.

Bump bump. This is exactly what i do. Osmium for greenhouse, I wont set up seeds in there without it.
(Unless i up a town rank and get some seeds for an offering to late in one season in a new save, but thats the sole exception. Im looking at you. Snowdrop from 140 museum turn ins.)

Oh wow, the fruit plants benefit too? I thought fertilizer didn't affect those. I may have to replant all mine then.

Same. Someone on another thread said the auto harvester might be the reason. I've started just harvesting by hand and I do get maybe 5 out of 20 that's lower than osmium so maybe they're right. Still that's only a 75%~80% osmium rate which is quite crap considering I maxed out my lab and used fertilizer which cost a lot. You'd think at this point it should be 90% or 100%

In my experience, this is roughly how it works out for me in the greenhouse.
Osmium grade seeds planted on osmium grade fertiliser.
Very few base grade crops
A few bronze grade crops
About 10% silver grade
Around 35% gold grade
Around 40% osmium grade

However, it's never consistent as RNG plays a big part in what you harvest.

I think that the auto-harvester was corrected, in a patch about 3 months ago, to give the same perk benefits as harvesting by hand.

According to the official wiki, you're not supposed to get any bronze or silver crops with the osmium seeds. The wiki also shows the percentages with fertilizer II on silver seeds.

Don't really care what the Wiki says, my experience is based on over 100 hours of gameplay.
You do get mostly gold and osmium, but occasionally silver, bronze and even base quality crops show up.

I notice that with the gold upgrade on the cranberries I planted with silver seeds, I'm still getting base crops. But on the gold seed flowers I'm not getting any base flowers, some bronze and silver but no base. All plants are outside, I don't have the greenhouse yet.

Also I believe you. I just mentioned the official wiki because I think the devs put the information there but I'm not sure.

It doesn't matter how much info they pump through the wiki and fandom-wiki, RNG will always put a spanner in the works from time to time. I did notice the fruit plants in the greenhouse take many crop cycles before they consistently put out gold and osmium fruit. I think they must be programmed to mature gradually.
