Bug-catching

hi! I got my net, and I seriously can't for the life of me catch bugs, apart from 1 entirely by chance.
Even if I stay still, the meter fills without me doing anything, then it runs away. Moving closer doesn't help as the bar shoots up (while holding net obivously) then it runs... what's the best strategy here?
the strafing closer toward the insect movement you do like on Animal crossing doesn't have the same sneaky effectiveness :( help please?

I think it's because this is "poor" net. I'm sure it'll be better later with better tool and skills. To catch a bug the bug needs to be in front of you and it glows blue a little if you try to catch it (then it's success).

The net has a little wedge shape area of effect that the bugs need to be in when you swing to catch them. The bugs should also highlight when they're within that area.

I've had better luck rushing the bugs instead of creeping up to them. Most of them wont bolt away that quickly but there are some that are very skittish.

thank you, I've had the same experience tbh rushing seems to work alot better than sneaking. The bar fills up really quick if I sneak which shouldn't be the case lol hopefully it'll be made abit easier later on

To be honest, they need to work on bug catching. Sneaking is mostly pointless, I have to rush as well. If you are behind a bug, the meter shouldn't fill at all. Most bugs I can catch fine, but moths and butterflies are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. xD

I barely use sneak. Most times, I have to catch a bug by "surprise" to get it. Some seem to flu or run away once I get close to it. Maybe the net quality needs to be better, but it still seems like the bug sensing system is a little too much. I have the 2nd perk with awareness and many of them still seem to sense me quickly, anyway. I hope it's more balanced in the future.

It surely needs more balance and less sensitive monster. Here is for a tip I found, maybe will help you guys. For butterfly and moth, it seems they are less sensitive on their sides and highly sensitive on their front and back. Caterpillar type critters' sensitive goes up it seems when you are from behind. Also I have noticed catching bugs near or in higher grass, can help with the sensitivity bar. I catch most of my bugs now, mostly only butterfly get away anymore.
