Owlboy

[Spoilers] The Ending, Owlboy's impact
Is anyone else really unsatisfied with the whole ending sequence of the game? In the end it turned out nothing we did, save for unintentionally providing a distraction for Solus so that the three relics could be stolen, actually mattered at all.

Assuming Solus had managed to find a way to steal the relics without our involvement, which I think is pretty likely, he would've just saved the world all by himself. We nearly screwed everything up.

I was also displeased by Asio in the ending sequence where he talks to you, barely even making any mention that he was wrong. He essentially acted like he didn't make any of those horrible accusations or completely rejected him post-Advent, and said he believed in him the entire time. What ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Solus's motivations are questionable as well. He clearly follows Owlboy and his friends along so he must've been aware of their intentions, yet he does not once clue them in on what he's up to. And in fact, it made even less sense when they were after the third relic, because he would not have wanted Owlboy to succeed in getting the relic before the pirates could. Why did he not lead them astray to try to keep them safe? Apparently Owlboy is his ONLY friend after all.

So, in the end, what was the point? I really didn't come away from this game with any sense of accomplishment or fulfillment, and there were too many questions left unanswered (even after I unlocked the final area with all the owl holograms).

It's also one of those where when the game ends it send you back to the last boss fight instead of letting you explore a new world.
Actually, if you go see Asio at a point, I think after Geddy leaves-- or maybe before you get on the rocket...he hugs you, apologizes for all of his misdeeds, how he was arrogant and short-sighted, and you hug him back.

Solus was afraid of the gang, he didn't want to tell them because the only people he trusted-- the pirates-- ended up wrecking shop with him anyway, he's nervous and knew the pirates more than likely wouldn't just hand the relics over. He needed to.

The climax is an example of too little too late, where Solus was too paranoid and insistant and like Asio, short-sighted. He could've told Otus and the rest-- but time was running out.

Also Otus was never Owlboy. It was Solus all along.

The Sanctuary doesn't add much to the game either other than lore of WHY the Hex failed.

EDIT:

As I had almost everything by the time I got to the finale it did leave me wanting more.

Huh, right you are, still, it's one hell of a 180 on a dime.

As for Solus being 'The Owlboy', there were times where pirates referred to Otus as that as well.

I think that was intentionally misleading. I don't think Molstrom ever knew Solus's name, so always called him Owlboy. Otus is an owlboy, but not -the- Owlboy, if that makes sense.

My guess is that it isn't actually Asio in the ending sequence, it is actually one of the ancient owls that look a lot like him. If you get the 3 golden tokens, you'll be able to see his hologram and Geddy will mention something like "he's just like Asio!" And, like said above, Asio does apologize to Otus if you speak to him in the right moment. And Otus wasn't useless on the Anti-Hex stuff too. Taking in consideration that Molstron would've probably had reached the Library before Solus could finish his ritual, you were indeed important on not only saving Solus' life but finishing the relics' ritual. Also, in one of the times you meet Solus in his cloaked form, he mentions "Maybe I took the wrong path.", realizing that he should've asked for Otus helps instead of trying to use the pirates, but it was too late to go back, as he wouldn't have where to run if he just stole the relics without having the third one.

I agree that the game isn't perfect, I give it a 8/10, specially because of the cliche story, but it does wrap up pretty well.

Thanks for the screenshot, I missed that. Went back and found it.

So I guess if Otus accomplished one thing at least, it was saving Solus, because the Anti-Hex likely would've killed him instead.

I'm still not really satisfied with the story as a whole. I was thinking about Solus and how completely against just his personality a lot of his actions were. The more I think about it, the less happy I am with the game's conclusion as a whole.

It's in what you think is the final room of the secret area you unlock with the 3 emblems. There's a hidden room.

yeah the ending felt.. unfinished, maybe its where the troubles during the games 9 year development hit hardest and they just had to leave it as it was and send it out.

I believe Geddy says "he just looks like Asio!" As in, that while looking like Asio, it isn't actually him. I don't see any reason why the owl in the ending sequence would be anybody other than Asio.

Is there any reason that Otus was the one to give his life to the anti-hex at the end? That seemed like his biggest contribution to the story progression.

Is just that I don't see why they would randomly choose to write that dialogue on one of the most important places of the game. And I kinda don't like to underestimate a game that took so long to be made, there's probably a lot of thinking on the dialogues, specially on that specific area.

And you can interpret that final character dialogue as in the ancient owls being sorry for causing all that to Otus and all they caused in the world because of they greed. Asio was just there after all of that happened, I don't really think he would apologize for creating the Hex and such.
Tyrant Nov 6, 2016 @ 3:04am
But that's also weird since the guy that looks like Asio was against the Hex from the very beginning and held no interest in the Loop.
