A bit of help for a newcomer?
I'm familiar with wrestling - of course, else why would I be here? - but I confess I'm somewhat new to the hobby. As such, I could use a little definition help from some veterans who know more about wrestling on the whole.

Though I've looked up those styles I could, could someone define each in brief? By pure assumption, I'm picturing...

Sports Entertainer: Straight up WWE wrestling. Well-rounded ring skills with an at least respectable ability to cut a promo.

Technical Wrestler: Best when engaging in complex holds and the like.

Brawler: Best at stand-up moves. Straight punches and kicks and some straightforward tossing about. Not as comfortable with acrobatics, holds, or submissions.

High Flyer: Not sure what this could be except springboards and turnbuckle acrobatics!

Hardcore: Really at home with props and out-of-ring engagements. Comfortable getting bladed. That sort of thing.

Strong Style: I assume this refers to the Japanese method that incorporates a lot of martial arts moves...?

Non-Wrestler: Presumably, these are people who aren't actually trained to wrestle, but serve purely as commentators and promoters.

Mixed Martial Arts: Presumably, these are people who come from an MMA background...?

-----

Here's where it gets tricky: What's a "Traditional Wrestler"? By relation, what's the difference between "Traditional" and "Pure Wrestling" in promotion style? Does this refer to someone with a more "old school" 60's-70's style of wrestling background? Does it refer to collegiate wrestling and its ilk?

----

When I set my promotion style, what exactly am I setting? Am I merely choosing a "reputation", or am I deciding what type of entertainment the promotion provides fullstop? If I choose Hardcore, do viewers expect every match to be hardcore?

-----

What exactly is a Deathmatch Wrestler? I'm afraid this particular term eludes me, and being that this game seems to look at things from a behind the curtain perspective, I have a feeling whatever assumption I draw it's not gonna be quite on the mark.

-----

Finally, a couple questions for veterans of the game specifically: What does a wrestler's "Safety" refer to; ability to avoid injury, or ability to keep from injuring others? Also, what are "soft drugs" in this context? Does tobacco count?

Thanks in advance for helping a newbie out.

Old school mindset, good vs. evil storytelling. This would be the product of WCW and the NWA in mods.

"Pure"
Back to basics approach of presenting wrestling as a athletic content. Counter wrestling and slow methodical ring work. One example is British Catch wrestling.

"Deathmatch"
Would be more extreme than hardcore.

"Safety"
Measures how likely a worker is to hurt other workers. A veteran usually have a high rating, while a rookie starts with a low rating.

"Soft drugs"
One example is marijuana. Personally I wouldn't add tobacco in this category.

"When I set my promotion style, what exactly am I setting? Am I merely choosing a "reputation", or am I deciding what type of entertainment the promotion provides fullstop? If I choose Hardcore, do viewers expect every match to be hardcore?"

The latter. You're setting what your fans expect from your promotion. A promotion with "Hardcore" style could have a standard match, but the fans won't be as receptive as they came to your event expecting a certain style and it'll hurt the match.

"What exactly is a Deathmatch Wrestler?"

Hardcore wrestling is, at it's most extreme, what you'd see from a promotion like ECW in it's heyday. Deathmatch wrestling, on the other hand, is far more extreme. The focus in a Deathmatch promotion, as the name kinda suggests, is the extreme gimmicks and blood involved. A Deathmatch promotion might have a 10,000 Light Tube Deathmatch or Weedeater On A Pole match as a main event, but even the opening match could see a guy get a hypodermic needle shoved through his cheek or suplexed through a pane of glass. Some well known promotions of the style include: FMW, W*ING, XPW, CZW, IWA-MS, WSX, Big Japan Pro Wrestling, and GCW.

Thanks, that was enlightening! I actually had no idea such styles existed. I was very familiar with hardcore wrestling of course, but I had no idea it got so much wilder than that.

Strong Style is one of a few styles of Japanese wrestling (it's called Puroresu in Japan)
it focus's more on the use of hard hitting strikes and submissions and is influenced by European Catch wrestling and MMA.

there is also Kings Road which is focused more one physical storytelling like American style but without the storylines and angles because the story is told during the match. Kings Road is also places a heavy emphasis on fighting spirit, were about "breaking the limit you set in the last" which usually involves the use of dangerous maneuvers that focused on the head and neck, particularly during the finishing stretches of Kings Road matches.

there is also Purolucha which combines the Jr heavyweight style of wrestling with Mexican Lucha Libre

Now that's a new one. I need to look this up and see it in action, that sounds intriguing.
