I don't think there was ever anything to find on the island, it is simply an abandoned place that was overly mysticized by its colonizers. That said, I certainly don't think of it as a waste of time. The whole island encounter was sick as ♥♥♥♥ as a climactic set-piece, and you do get his stuff, so mechanically it does throw you a bone. I think the whole point of Asterion as a character is that he was a prisoner of and undone by his own pursuit of power/ambition and I think the game is attempting to drive home the futility of that kind of mind set.
I more or less assumed as much myself.
Like...It was a tragic conclusion to have come SO far, had such an incredible final adventure (literally the only damage I took was from using the combat potion which I didn't even need!)...And in the end, all that there was was an undead, a small pile of money, and some scrap I wouldn't even have time to sell.
But I was still satisfied. Sometimes, life is cruel, hopes are denied, and people die for literally nothing. That's the way the world is sometimes.
And...Honestly? It was a fitting cap to my adventures. After that encounter, I confronted another character who I had just recently found out did some somewhat unethical things...And I was just like "Look, 2 days ago, I would have turned you in. Now? Now I'm just SO tired. I get why you did it, so you know what, you're off the hook."
It all came together so incredibly well. My only real regret is not telling the guys at the hunting town in the north east that I would come live with them after my adventures. XD
This feels like a huge letdown though :( I thought i was sailing off to discover something exciting to change the fate of the peninsula, maybe provide some sort of alternative to the dominance of hovlavan
I felt it was unsatisfying, I didn't get to confront who did it because I ran through their dialogue already.
Otherwise, I enjoyed everything else so much that I got over it quickly. Creeks asking me to be part of their tribe made me feel like my efforts were worth it, even if Asterion still remained a mystery 'til the end. The rest of the game still remained strong. He wasn't really there for the story, he was just our motivation, so in the end what happened didn't matter.
I liked informing people we found him, no one seemed overly attached to him, despite words about him being mostly good.
I was hoping I would get to meet and save him, because I had heard so much about him, and it ruined my ability to make trade with the Tribe of Green Mountain because the island is forbidden.
Oh? You do? :o
Please enlighten me to your theory, I'm really curious!
