(HELP) Game slows down my PC, fps drop (SOLVED)
Hey

I bought this game just now since I wanted to play something different and unique.
However I have a bit of an issue.

For some reason when I start a game, my computer completely slows down (I have 3 monitors. 1 for my games, 1 for Twitch and 1 for whatever I feel like) and my fps drop to 10-20 and stays like that. Main menu is fine (60+fps solid). The issue only happens when I start a playthrough.

I dont really understand why since its a text base game? Right now as I am typing this, I am sitting in the first screens of the game and my fps sits at 15.

I kinda need help firguring this out. Thanks!

Ryzen 2700x
RTX 2080ti
32GB RAM

EDIT: The slow down seems to be happening when in fullscreen mode only. When I launch borderless gaming and this game, and play in window borderless mode, the slow down seems to go away. However MSI afterburner still shows a frame drop to 10-20 fps (which is weird).

Something wonky is happening with fullscreen mode.

Yeah... pretty much unplayable for me atm.

I updated my gpu driver, reinstalled the game on both HDD and SSD, I tweaked nvidia panel settings and nothing helped.

Not sur what I can do now.

There's literally no animations. how exactly is 15 fps noticeable or even affecting the experience? Genuinely asking, since it's a miracle my laptop can run anything faster than 40. a drop to 15 is noticeable but not exactly impacting my experience even on full 3D worlds and characters

Because its choppy. My mouse is literally jumping/stuttering. Imagine looking at a picture and its lagging. Yes, it is affecting my experience and Id wager it would yours too. I can also see my other Twitch tab lagging because of the game. My whole computer is affected for whatever reason because of the game.

Also, 10-20fps is not excusable for a game without animations. Id say its even worst because theres no reason for any fps drops then.

did you try windowed instead of fullscreen?
or reduce the quality of the twitch stream?

Hi 1Gl1001it1001ch1,
do you have any other programs running in the background? Are you running the game as administrator? Do you have any anti-virus software, that might try to intervene with the game and causing those problems? Simply set exceptions for steam and Roadwarden.
Are all your drivers up-to-date (Graphic card drivers, Windows drivers, and so on).
Please feel free to share as much details as possible to get this properly sorted.
Thank you in advance.

This is happening to me too. Game running as admin, antivirus software has all my steam games on the whitelist, GPU drivers and windows are up to date as of a few days ago.

It's really bad. The sound is fine, but the mouse cursor stutters immensely as do transitions. It's the game, not people's set-up.

If I shift focus to another window (ie: Press the Windows Key) and move the mouse cursor to the background game window everything is smooth. It's only when the game is in focus that it struggles. This means being in window mode also fixes it, but the moment you go Fullscreen it chugs constantly

Fully updated drivers. Nothing running in the background. Clean set-up recently formatted. Playing GOG version

As I mentioned,

CPU/GPU Usage: 10-15%
CPU/GPU Heat: Under 50-55°C
RAM usage: No difference at all
Drivers are all updated
Win 10

Ive tried changing some settings in nvidia control panel, disabling/enabling fullscreen optimizations, run admin mode, add exception to the firewall, only running steam + game (no other programs), running the x32 version instead of x64, install on SSD/HDD... Nothing is fixing the fullscreen "slow down/slow motion" issue.

The only way I can "fix" the issue is by playing the game in window mode, and then launching the Borderless Gaming app on steam to make it window borderless mode (fullscreen).

Small update: It seems the "disable fullscreen optimization" when running the game with borderless gaming must be checked for the game to run smoothly. Otherwise the choppiness start to happen again.

Hi there, I'm glad you were able to find a workaround.
Any chance you use G-Sync monitors?

I'm personally using a LG 34GP950-B which is a G-Sync Ultimate Monitor yes, which is a feature I use via the Display Port connection. In the Nvidia Control Panel I have the G-Sync setting to the default of only being leveraged for Full-Screen applications, but the issue also persists when Window Mode compatibility is selected. It does however stop occurring when I fully disable G-Sync.

I assume the game does not support High Refresh Rate (144hz) which is why this is happening in FullScreen when G-Sync is enabled only?

I'm sorry the game fails to adapt. All I can do for now is to quote something I found online for another game made in the same engine:
"it seems to be due to g-sync monitors with g-sync turned on the mouse is slightly laggy for some reason in full screen. Out of full screen it's fine or disable g-sync and it goes back to normal."

Confirmed, this issue disappears when I disable gsync. Is there any chance you could add gsync support? I would prefer not to have to disable it every time I want to play.

Same here. Switched from gsync to fixed refresh rate + vsync off in nvidia control panel and the lag/stuttering is gone in fullscreen mode now.

This is going to be happen to other people too, so Id recommend looking into it.
On another note, glad you could find the issue.

Thank you both for confirming it. I'll ask people more familiar with the engine as it's likely beyond my knowledge of the topic.
