Freeing Nameless
I am going round in circles in the Fort dungeon trying to find the lever/switch to free Nameless but am lost. It doesn’t help that every time you climb a ladder the enemies respawn. Also, the map is kind of hopeless in showing where you have or haven’t explored.

i have one of two gates unlocked to the center coin down the long castle path , i can not get to the second gate lever no matter where i go . the one on the west side .

its game breaking not getting the nameless as i read about on the posts ... so im kinda sol to get further ...
Are you on Discord? It's kinda hard to send images and stuff here, but there is a guide in our Discord. Alternatively, there is a guide here: https://9d3.fandom.com/wiki/Locations#Fort_Hinuol

Basically if you unlock all the levers and manage to get out the final ladder and get the gold chest, just walk to the left to enter the area where Nameless is stuck

Don't do it for 5 hours ,that's your problem. Give it a rest comeback and you will have a better chance of finding stuff out with a fresh mind. This applies to anything ,go do something else often works for me.

for second lever, you need to go kind of left and down from where the lever is. go up, then left then down left side. look around there

i had done many things, took out the bandit hide out and wandered around the area , made it to lvl 24 before that link the dev posted. like i said in all that time in there i have no idea how i kept passing the D2 to U2 ladder but that was it ... 5 mins after seeing the map with connections i was done.. i tried before to stack the floors on an image to see the connections between floors but they didnt seem to match up well for that to show me what i had been walking right past over and over ... lol

anyhow got my companion, also google has no idea about this game lol i searched allover for maps before coming to this forum , im not big on discord normally. but ill check it out sounds like many useful infos are there.

thanks again

This dungeon is a terrible, terrible experience.

And it's the second one in the game.

can you add well visible markers on every map for stairs? It would help everyone a lot with the navigation issues.

Also is fog of war something very hard to do? I have no idea of how hard it is, but would be cool if the dungeons had fog of war until explored

Yeah, this dungeon is driving me absolutely nuts.
I'm killing enemies without much problem but trying to navigate the dead ends in this maze and multi-layer levels with only a static map is simply frustrating me.

I have spent a couple of hours going up and down stairs and flipping levers, killed the dude in the square prison but still have not been able to access the middle of the castle where the ability coin is, let alone find the lever to free Nameless.

Hopefully I can get some help from the maps you linked to.

edit;
I checked over at Discord and another poster mentioned he was stuck at 80% completion of Fort Hinuol, exactly the same as me. Unfortunately there was no further comments, though it makes me think that we both must be missing the exact same thing, o_O

Further edit:
OMG!
Those map links helped me.
Looking at the first map I realised that D4 ladder must be a way to get to a corridor that I was unable to get to.
And sure enough it was. Though why I missed it is a mystery to me. I was sure I had gone up and down every ladder. Perhaps when I switched another lever it opened something up around it.
Dunno.

if it isn't one ladder its another! better map markers indeed are in need ...

It took me about 3 times going through the dungeon to find it. It's been a few days but I believe the path is directly south of the Trapped Warrior. There should be a ladder there that takes you back up to the first floor and the path to the next ladder up is in that area to lead you back outside to free him. Apologies if I'm not being as specific as I could be but I do remember the ladders in question were very center of the map and easy to miss.

By the third time I was doing a systematic sweep through each level to find it. It's there though, don't lose hope. I can assure you it isn't bugged.

bit late but thanks for the support :)

Sorry, didn't even see the end of the discussion. You're welcome though sorry I wasn't much help. I try though sometimes I fail. Glad you found your way through! Happy hunting!

Yeah the map really needs something showing where you have been and not been, and ability to mark the map (or show points of interest like stairs, etc)

I just finished it, took like 6 hours lol.

Yes, I agree with this!!! Would make the game so much better

Not sure how easy a note taking system would be and it might clutter the small map without a zoom. Adding a zoom might be too much to implement as well. I think a fog of war on the map might be both the easiest to implement and still work to show the player where they've been.
I know that grinding some areas might be necessary at some stages of this game but it would also be nicer if it was up to the player where they grind rather than be forced into grinding certain dungeons only because they became lost.

It would also be cool if there was a later dungeon that for some reason (story related or maybe due to a boss?) was designed to get lost in. That the fog of war doesn't work so you have to stumble your way through a bit. But maybe only certain sections, not the whole map. This is just a general idea for these types of games, not necessarily this one. That would probably be something you'd have to have in mind during development.
But I think a fog of war shouldn't be too hard to add. (He said without any idea how difficult it actually is in general, in a game that's already complete, or for this engine.)
