Assault Gun and Tank Destroyer roles?
Assault Gun and Tank Destroyer roles?

Are you using them?
These model types have numerous overlapping penalties for different parameters, so it's quite hard to understand their purpose at a glance.

However, my understanding them for now is this:
- Assault Gun: dedicated anti-infantry attack vehicle.
It doesn't have penalty for HOWITZER (anti-soft) gun and at the same time costs twice less in IP vs Medium Tank.
Also you can put reasonable armor on it (comparing with Light Tanks).

- Tank Destroyer: dedicated anti-tank defence vehicle. Is when you need something sturdy and made of iron to withstand enemy attack. Similar to "anti-tank" guns but in hard shell.

What do you think?
Thanks!

Assault guns are great for mixing with medium tanks. Count as same unit-type. Having two medium tank models would cost way more BP to design.

I mostly use light tanks well into mid game and don't bother with heavier ones until late game. Anything other than light tanks is just super expensive to operate in my opinion.

What I used a bit more in one particular game, were Walkers. They actually make sense if you have a lot of hills/mountains and want a similar punch to tanks on offense.

I usually create a light tank howitzer as my "main" tank and I have a lesser used anti-tank variant. Towards late game, these anti-tank variants I replace with heavier tanks eventually.

I personally almost never bother with assault guns, but I think I have to experiment with them a bit more, to see if they fit my play style.
Unnecessary bloat tbh.
theoretically they are more resource efficient than equivalent anti-infantry medium tanks, and anti-tank heavy tanks. but the specific resource they are cheaper by is Industrial points and tbh industrial points are very rarely the limit to your economy so its usually not worth using assault guns or tank destroyers(unless you get terrible structural design rolls on your medium/heavy tanks and go for assault guns/tank destroyers to save on the bureaucratic point cost of trying for more heavy/medium designs)

Agree on Medium Tank vs Assault Gun.
But Tank Destroyer has better "hard counter-attack" value - so, he is good at face-tanking.. tanks.
Hvy Tank "hard-attack" with 180mm HV: 1006/671
Tank Destroyer "hard-attack" with 180mm HV: 755/1006
In other words, Hvy Tank is worse at defending, holding position, which makes dessie viable choice.

P.S.: not taking into account soft-attack values here.
