Saves are shared with other players. Once you take your turn you pass it to the next player. Regimes are password protected so you can only play yourself

Yeah fairly easy to do via Discord for example... but it's still a bit more combersome than it'd need to be in my opinion.

Don't the developers intend to create online multiplayer at some point? I play Field of Glory: Kingdoms and it's so easy. Having to search for channels on discord and take files from strangers is not something I like.

I don't see synchronous multiplayer working well for SE, due to turn times. "Take my turn, then go watch TV for an hour while waiting for the other players to take their turns" isn't a very popular gameplay model. Even as it is, people complain about AI turn lengths, and that's in the single-digit minutes, while I frequently spend well over an hour to take a turn during major wars.

Get your friends playing SE, or make new friends within the SE community. Then play PBEM games with your friends. Both problems solved.

I'm not talking about synchronous multiplayer, but asynchronous multiplayer like Field of Glory: Kingdoms. It's not about making friends, it's about playing a game without having to grab files from strangers on discord channels. I don't know how hard it is to make a game server like Field of Glory to play asynchronous turn-based games, however, it is extremely necessary.

I think the pvp with play by e-mail is really a great option and I played it for years. You make your turn, which in later game can be up to two hours of great fun, send the turn per Discord to your opponents and wait for their turn to be send. That means you can make your turn whenever the time is right for you. The downside is that some games run for more then a year but this ones were the best ones I remember. I had the best games of my life in this games mp. Join discord, there is a great community for SE and you find players there very easy!
I didnt want to go to discord first, because I felt as a steamer, but the community there really rocks.
