Traders Ran out of Money
Hi! I am at turn 64 and I've seemed to have hit a huge issue; the traders seem to be completely out of money. Every turn I check for the last 10 or so turns, the traders have 0 credits available for purchase. What is going on here and how can I fix it? I'll give more information when asked.

Two things: One, you're probably already autoselling excess resources beyond the storage cap to the limit of their credits (beyond that said resources get just thrown away), thus leaving them without credits (but you with more credits than just your taxes and tariffs). Mouse over your your resources in the left tab (when the resource tab is open, of course)

And two, also:
From pages 181-182 of the manual, section 5.3.13.4
The Traders also play a role in keeping total Credits in the system close
to the Monetary Constant. Once too many Credits enter the system
compared to total planetary Populace, the Traders will start putting part
of their Credits in Trader Treasures (and thus taking those Credits out of
circulation). Furthermore, they’ll start decreasing the price they are willing
to buy Items for.

When too few Credits remain in the system, the Traders will start scavenging
their Trader Treasures (and thus putting more Credits in circulation).
182

These Trader Treasures are at the moment fully abstract and not accessible
for player interaction.
Basically: There's probably too much money in circulation, so they are also likely to have less money too in the first place, making it even easier for your autoselling just taking all their money.

Thanks for getting back to me! As it is, the forced sales from being over my resource cap only total 28 credits; which is far less than what traders usually have spare. My theory is that the two other majors, who have their nation covered in public assets, are selling all of their excess to the traders, leaving the traders broke by the time my turn comes up.

In order to fix this situation, what should be my course of action? Spam cards to vastly increase my population? Destroy the other majors' public assets?

The most likely reason that there'd be no credits is because:

A) The population is so low that there's nobody to buy anything, or to stimulate the economy.

C) There are no resources to be bought. Most likely due to scarcity in planet generation.

I think you should eliminate foreign market competition with extreme prejudice.

Your traders can run out of money without all traders everywhere running out of money. Trade between traders in different areas is slow, I believe.

Consider uploading your save if things are really strange, so that we might be able to check for ourselves too.

Thanks for the recommendations guys, I'll do that when I return to that save-game since I decided to start a new one.

Obtaining borders with more regimes, as well as making trade agreements with major regimes may allow the traders to offload their goods to new markets to make credits.
