The hide obsolete option in the Model-Management Tab is just there for a better overview. I personally don't use it. My advice don't create too many updates for models unless you have researched substantial tech improvements.
By the way putting models that you fielded on Obsolete Quality will force all those to return to the SHQ. So before you do that make sure you upgrade/replace the outdated models on the field.
I dont create that many, its around turn 130 i believe and i have 5 infantry, 4 light tanks and buggys and my 4th/5th ultra/light plane.
I usually make a new one if i have a new tech, or important applied sciences to around 50% like fuel or armor improvements. They do change the stats a fair bit, and i can then replace them over time.
The places where they do show up even on obsolete are Model designer and model overview at the very least. I just tend to like my things neat and organized if i have a choice. Not 9 pages of models because everything usually got at least one update.
Or if the first time i tried to design something, it rolled 80-something on structural strenghts and i kinda had to completely disregard that design.
Alternatively the option to delete/scrap OBSOLETE and UNUSED models would be another nice QOL option.
