Seems such a waste.
Spies provide recon. That's their whole purpose. And on Major Powers they occasionally provide the opportunity to strenghten a faction of your choice. Humanist factions are most likely to seek peace with you. In case you want that.
The single spy card places a single spy. Two spies on critical success (You can reliably get a critical success with a sufficiently skilled Secret Service Director). The spy ring card comes with a higher difficulty, it places 6 spies on critical success. The spy team 12. Makes a huge difference in PP cost per spy. With enough spies in a territory, you not only see the terrain, you see everything. Troop locations and strengths, population numbers, assets, name it. Information is key in warfare. It allows you to have your troops where you need them when you need them. The worse the relation to a country, the higher the difficulty of placing spies there.
Spies placed on enemy territories deteriorate over time. I don't know exactly how it works, what I know is that you have to place more of them occasionally if you want to keep your recon level.
Thank you for taking the time to explain this. I think most people who reply assume the other player knows way more. Therefore, the explanations are almost meaningless. You took the time to explain basic stuff I was missing. So thank you very much.
All I thought spies did was reveal land and borders. I also thought they only worked the one turn. I am just going to have to keep playing around with this learning a little here and there.
A single spy will reveal the borders, two spies will usually give you a full view of the terrain, more spies is always good. Keeping enough spies in lands controlled by wildlife and marauders will also save you needing to keep troops nearby as you will know exactly where the pests are (and how many of them plus what kind they are, real handy knowing what the 10m apex predator has in terms of traits and stats before it munches on your poor infantry).
Thank you. My current game I am using spies much better now. Finding power sources in neutral areas which I am then claiming.
I saw enemy troop movement and was able to steer them away by placing troops in their path.
So this knowledge I am gaining is helping greatly. Thank you to everyone.
