Anyway to permanently get rid of a leader?
After I fire someone and they are unhappy, is there any way to just have them removed from your set of leaders?

I have hired other leaders using stratagem cards and I have a bunch of unused leaders now who are unhappy because they have nothing to do.

You have to use retirement cards on leaders in your reserve pool. If you have them, they're in the 'Leaders' category. They'll also retire at some point due to old age.

Ok great, that makes sense. Thanks.

Third option, governor-only: A democracy fation stratagem, Local referendum, removes an acting governor and remove him from game.

Retirement strats work on reserve pool members only, assassination works on every leader and is a personal combat cov ops director vs target, local referendum works against against governors only and is an oratory roll of target governor which deletes him on a failed roll, so it works best vs low oratory govs.

4th option: Make the idiot an OHQ commander and let him have happy accidents, like soloing an enemy tank unit with his HQ unit alone...

I never hire XYZ faction candidate, unless it is from the faction I promote the most. They are often really the wurst, like mind + CAP I with like 7 INT. I hire them, making the faction happy and getting me some precious mind points, then immediately firing said guy, which works like a charm because he has very low seniority.

I can recommend using the letterbox every turn, as you will see newly formed stupid autocracy factions to be killed off in the same turn or results of running your trigger-happy idiot into entrenched in mountain enemy MGs - KIA just magically happen sometimes and are then in the letterbox. If you click a combat result report off too quick, at least KIA are found there, even if they happen in your own turn.

I got a great guy in charge of covert ops. So just assassinate them.

Assassinate is was recently changed to not require autocracy, it seems. Nice!
