Is there a good way to change over rail infrastructure?
Long ago when I started my previous game, I believe you were allowed to have both rail and high speed rail stations in the same zone.

As of 1.08, that seems to be disallowed.

Which leaves me with the problem - what do I do if I want to switch over from old-style rail to new? The only option I've come up with is closing the old station, waiting several turns for it to decay, and only then starting to build a new one. Which is obviously rather problematic downtime for an important logistical hub...

Nothing. Suffer.

I think only cost was changed in 1.0.8 - what else is preventing on building normal and high speed station next to each other on different hexes ? (building high speed station just outside city) I thought that you could have both in the same zone - as long as they are not on the same hex ?

Maybe you can, if they're in different hexes. Didn't try that.

...That seems like it would make the restriction completely pointless. Why not let you build both in the same hex if you can build the second just one hex over?

(I have no idea what version it changed in. The last game before my current one where I clearly remember using high speed rail was a lot of versions back.)

This has been discussed before at matrixforums.

This should be the relevant thread https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4922110

I don't see any discussion of this in that thread, on a skim.

There was short discussion with Vic in March under this link - about quick removal of building for High-Speed Rails, so he is aware of it: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4986751

I'm hoping that it turns into a upgrade. It feels a little silly that we have to dismantle the entire train depot before we can pull in the high speed trains. The alternative is building rail stations besides your cities.

The difference between how traditional railways work compared to high speed magnetic rail style is SO different. If anything I'm surprised we aren't required to rip up all the tracks/make new ones beside them; it's like saying "it's silly we can't just upgrade our truck station so that trains can use the roads".

It's not really the stations that are the big difference for maglev rail, it's all those hundreds and hundreds of kilometers of track.

I don't see much reason to think high speed rail is maglev though.
