How do you build roads?
Okay, I've been looking through the forums, probably blind, but I press the hotkey for building roads, wait a turn annnnnnnnnnnnnd. Nothing. What am I doing wrong?

R hotkey, then choose the road type and have the IP to do so.

Roads are built instantly. You need the industrial points to do so, the little cogs.

Building roads doesn't take time. As long as you have resources it's instantaneous.

When you have build roads mode active you left-click where you want road/rail to start and right-click where you want it to end.

R is the roadbuilding hotkey. Way faster than rightclicking a dedicated hex imho.

Would be nice if the game told me WHY building a road fails. When I select the road construction mode I can see the preview road, and the game tells me I have enough IP to build it. Then I click to build, and sometimes it works, but most times it says I don't have a connection to the HQ, even though the road originates from said HQ. I have no clue why the construction fails over and over again, so I keep bouncing off the game and losing interest.

Is it a thing where you simply selected the end title, rather then building to it? Like using left click rather then right click to preform the action?

Yes, you probably clicked right click instead of left click (or the other way) - and switched to trying to building road from that hex (which you cannot do), rather than giving order to build road.

Bottom right in road mode you will see the cost pop up in a grey box.

Yeah, seems it was this. Just not used to the user interface yet, so I pressed the wrong mouse button.

I was confused until I saw how huge the cost to put roads down on certain terrain.

abit of road can easily cost 2k in points if you going though a mountain etc.

Yeah, this game doesn't explain itself well, been having some problems, but overall, my experience has been great.
