You can buy it on their store so they get 100% of the revenue, you can play on release and you will receive a steam key for free when it gets released on steam.
I see that as an absolute win..
And later this year or next year i buy the game. Sadly the matrix store is only in english and i will never buy anything on a site with a other language than my own.
I have too many games that I've lost over the years (not from Matrix). Most of you probably did not have to deal with D2D, Gamefly and all the mergers that went on. Guess what, when they merged I lost games! I had another account on Gamestop, it got hacked, they took the games off that were purchased when it got hacked, along with several games that I did purchase. They fixed it again, but instead of adding the games I purchased they added some things back in that I did not purchase, and was not interested in. End of Gamestop online purchases. I've never had any issues with Steam that were not instantly resolved.
I'll stick to Steam. 30 years of online gaming has taught me some valuable lessons. I might look at this in a year or two who knows?
Also Matrix clearly does not understand Sam Walton and Moon Pies....
Simple it is indeed, i dont suports monopolies on anything and finde epic game store tactics disgusting. I see this like epic move from matrix and will reconsider suporting matrix games as well
That's the complete opposite of my experience with Matrix. I too needed to recover an old account last year and had no email access or really much info to give them. It took a few days, but they got it sorted out, all of my games were restored, and I was even retroactively given Steam keys for games that didn't even have Steam keys when I first purchased them.
I have no complaints with their service on that front.
Is Matrix bribing companies that never released on their store before to have long exclusivity deals? No, the developer of this game has released every single one of his games on Matrix first since nearly 10 years ago. This is nothing new.
Matrix will even give you a Steam key to use later. Does Epic give out Steam keys for games you buy on Epic? Not a chance.
But then, about 5 or more years ago, they listened to their customers and saw the potential of selling on Steam and they offer some of their games here as well. (Not all. There are quite a few for which there is no Steam key available.)
So they share the works of their development teams with Steam too and Steam takes 30% of the price of a game for themselves. So why not just relax and understand that, for a while at least, both the developer and the publisher can reap the full benefit of their work and not give 30% of it to a third party when they already provide the same download service themselves.
You don't have to buy direct from Matrix's store if that offends you for some reason and just wait another week/month/whatever until it is available here and then you can buy it from your favourite store. It's not an exclusive forever.
I just see a solid business model from a wargame specialist company that has been in existence since 1999. There is nothing nefarious or disgusting in their current business model -- release on Matrix first, then on Steam later for some of their games. Others remain exclusive to Matrix. With this game, you can buy it now (Thursday) from Matrix or from Steam later. How is this "disgusting?"
I love Steam,, love the ease of updates and have a huge library (over 1500 titles) here, but Matrix has earned my business (over 50 titles) and respect over many years. Supporting them with a direct purchase is an easy call for me.
This post made me realize what an old geezer I am.
Why...simple, I then have complete control over my purchase.
Great service & a great community of active players per their titles.
Steam is fine, however, no internet, then no game play.
BTW, you should never lose your Slitherine or Matrix downloads as your Membership Page stores everything.
Of course, you could always store them on your computer or a flash drive.
