While there is a setting for highlighting heroes, it shouldn't impact objects (though I'd still advise double-checking your settings, just to be sure).
Other things that may have caused this are driver updates or game updates. Have you updated your GPU drivers recently or checked some of the settings in your GPU software? If so, you might wanna try reverting those and see if it makes a difference.
When did the issue start? After a recent game update perhaps or just randomly out of nowhere? It if was after an update, chances are it's a bug, otherwise, as already mentioned, try to revert some general changes to your graphical settings (If you made any) and see if that helps.
If nothing helps, please report the bug here: https://redmine.thqnordic.com/projects/spellforce-3-fallen-god-community/issues/new
Hope you manage to fix your issue.
Also noticed it affected the "hero highlights" as well cause when I had rebooted the game, they were glowing absolutely brightest blue. So it seemed to have been a bug affecting everything involved.
Please make sure you don't have any after-effects or post processed renderings by your GPU driver activated. That can cause these issues quite often.
Sadly i can't agree with you on this and you should take a look on this here:

Plus with Fallen God I have been loving the way that the Trolls have been written as much deeper and complex people than the regular "Murgaburga smash rock with face". Spellforce 3, at least with it's depiction of races and characters, is refreshingly progressive and challenges a lot of the bored and tired stereotypes of race depiction within fantasy worlds. I like that a lot. :)
It's not that SpellForce 3 doesn't do some things right in this regard, it's the fact that the issues were completely, 100%, unnecessary, and a result of laziness - that's something we don't want to condone and support.
The story could have been pretty darn similar, even identical in most cases with no mistakes to speak of.
