Its in my above comment, there is nothing no Easter egg, no pay off, Nothing with them, you just find hem on the mentioned map, with a ton of gold on them thats it. Its like Each map you saw them in they was harvesting gold, and by the end, you gain the gold they harvested
On the Mountain-Village-Map you can save a hurt Goblin who starts selling you "mysterious" stew. If you rotate the camera and look into his hut from behind, you see some strung up humanoid corpses with a boiling pot. Implicating that the secret recepy of the goblins is just human ressources for their stew. And they use the stolen tech from the dwarves (the truck/s) to gather corpses on a big scale to make more... stew.
The 15k gold on the other hand were very likely just placeholder-loot during development, which was never replaced with potentially planned more important loot.
