Windows 11 Launch Fix (& Operation Fly Trap Bug Fix)

2023 Update
This mission bug can now be fixed along with general launch issues on devices running Windows 11. If you are confident in changing core affinity for applications, please go to the TLDR at the bottom of the guide.

Summary
If you are experiencing issues launching the game, specifically the game crashing after confirming what control type you are using, this will resolve the issue.
If you are not experiencing the launch fault, you may find the game soft locks on Operation Fly Trap at the stage after you get your claws.
This guide will fix both issues and should make the game playable after the Operation Fly Trap mission has been completed.

• Step 1:
  Before launching Prototype 2 (P2), open Task Manager. You can do this by right clicking the Start menu, then selecting Task Manager.
  Expand the Steam (32 bit) application in Task Manager, then right click the Steam (32 bit) within.
  Select Go to details and the process for steam.exe will be highlighted. Right click on this then click on Set Affinity
  You should see a list of CPUs with ticked boxes. Untick 4 of these, CPU 12/13/14/15 for example, and then click OK.
  
  
• Step 2:
  Open Steam and launch P2.
  If the game still fails to launch, exit P2, go to the steam affinity settings as above and untick another CPU. Usually a maximum of 12 CPU processors should be enough to resolve but if it keeps crashing at this amount try to reduce to 8 or 4.
  
  
• Step 3:
  If P2 has launched successfully, start a new game and run through the first few missions. You can attempt to use an existing save if it exists, however this isn't recommended as it may not work correctly with the new configuration.
  
  
• Step 4:
  Operation Fly Trap is the mission which can soft lock the game.
  Kill the creature, get your claws and kill the second one.
  This stage is where you will know whether the fix has resolved the issue
  The game should now go into slow motion and give you the bonus objectives step by step and block you from doing anything other than targeting the soldier and doing the pounce manoeuvre.
  
  If this is the case the other objectives should appear after you pounce the soldier. Now see Step 5 at the bottom of this post.
  
  If this doesn't happen see Step 4.1
  
  IMPORTANT Step 4.1 mentions restarting. Please note, when I say 'start again' I mean start from a checkpoint. DON'T RESTART YOUR GAME LIKE A N008C4K3 as it is not required.
  
  
• Step 4.1:
  If this isn't the case and you are just able to see the bonus objectives whilst running around then unfortunately on this time it hasn't worked. Abandon the mission and start again from the mission marker. Rinse and repeat Step 4 from the checkpoint.
  Unfortunately it can take a few attempts for the game to get this fixed, sometimes if you are lucky it will work the first time but after getting past this step it shouldn't soft lock again.
  
  
• Step 5:
  Once you have completed the mission, save your game. Make note of this save as this will be a restore point should the game settings need tweaking again.

  TL:DR 4 dank script kiddies - Set affinity to 1 CPU core (your choice which, doesn't really matter) and restart from checkpoint prior to Operation Fly Trap. Keep repeating the mission (best way is to abandon and restart) until you get a slo-mo scene and can pounce a soldier. If you can complete the mission you can stop repeating, reset your affinity to whatever it was before and continue the game as normal.

  Now this is the only method that I have used and after a few more tries it did work and I was able to carry on no problem. Let me know if this has worked for you!

After you've pounced the soldier and it worked, giving you other objectives, can you go back into the settings and tick all the other CPU's back on? because if I only have 1 ticked, it makes my game lag bad. :l

STICKY THIS! to help all pc users

I however on this mission just alt tabbed switched it to use only 1 core then restarted from checkpoint and it worked. (no starting the game from point 0 for me :D )

I just had to restart from checkpoint 2 times and it finally did it properly. You know it will do it properly because the game world will pause when the tutorial text comes up.

Worked for me. I didn't have to restart the whole mission, just from the checkpoint a couple of times and then it worked!!

I am able to get to the point of the game slowing down to complete the pouncing objective (replaying hard mode), yet i am unable to pounce, the animation starts then suddenly stops. I have also changed the affinity of the game to CPU 0 but to no avail.
The game is currently stuck at this point at the moment .
