However there's a problem with this. It put tremendous strain on my processor to only run at 25% of its usual number of cores. I began getting latency issues after two days. It was long enough to beat the game once, but I put it back the way it was as soon as I saw I was harming my processor. I won't limit it like that again. I'd love to continue playing the game, but sadly I have to stop.
- Intel i7-7700HQ (Quad Core)
- NVIDIA GTX1060 (6GB VRAM)
- 2x8 RAM (2667MHz) Even though my RAM sticks are both 3200MHz with CL of 16 I can’t clock them that high cause the motherboard manufacturer blocked XMP. Waiting for my ordered SPI Programmer with clips to arrive so that BIOS modders can unlock my BIOS
The others aren’t important. How well does Watch Dogs 2 run for you though ? It is the worst performing game I ever came across
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Prototype 2\prototype2engine.dll
That .dll file is the source of the crash. I googled the file and downloaded a new one from here.
https://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/P/prototype2engine.dll/1,1,0,2100/download.html
I replaced the file in the common folder and now my game launches just fine. Doing this IN ADDITION to setting the affinity to 4 cores seems to have done the trick.
Note: Verifying integrity of game files did NOT solve the issue. Manually replacing the .dll did. Although verifying again afterwards doesn't seem to hurt either, and may even help if you start crashing again.
Now i can start my game, the loading screen is unloked!
Fyi, you don't need to do this. Instead you just set the affinity (max of 4 cores, so 0,1,2,3) in Task Manager -> Details of Steam.exe (yes, steam, not the game) before launching it. Then it works.
Despite of course, that this issue is on fresh PCs too, but hey, just invent stuff, amiright?
Invent what exactly ? I see people with so much useless malware installed here and there that it is just easier to tell them to reset their OS. I'm just someone who's always in the middle that doesn't have a high end PC and that doesn't have a low end. Probably people who always keep their rig up to date will experience issues too since developers target the mass first rather than keeping people with their rainbow desktops happy
Maybe I was a bit too harsh, I am sorry for that.
But by all the people who have this problem here, it isn't easy to just say "it's because your system isn't fresh probably". And so many people here are saying, that the problem either doesn't exist, or that their system is too bad, or you with the fresh OS thing.
So yeah, I might have took your comment in the wrong way, it's frustrating to read through the comments and see all the snarky ones.
Can’t review the game due to region restrictions so this is the best I could do to keep the game afloat.
What do you mean by "can't even download it"?
I can download it now. My problem is when I start the game it works but then when the games tells me to press enter it just crashes
Never mind. settings the affinity of steam.exe to 4 cores (0, 1, 2, 3) fixed my game.
