Fixed Black Screen on Startup (Fix in post)

Hey Guys,

So.......I got Prototype 2 through the Humble Bundle and started it up, it worked perfectly.

I quit the game and came back in the eveing to play again and BOOM a black screen but I can hear the game has launched and my monitor says no signal... GREAT!

After a couple of posts, some translating and about 45mins on Youtube I found a fix that should be persistant.

I Hope... please feel free to leave any feedback.

My solution:
Log on to Steam (Online Mode)
Find the Prototype 2 Game and access the options (right click on the game in steam).
Disable the automated sync of saves accross PC's.
Close Steam.

Go into My Documents (Or in my case OneDive/Documents).
Find The "Activision" Folder.
Go inside, Open the "Prototype 2" Folder.
Delete the "profile" file.

Relauch Steam.
Launch the game.

Play for an hour or two and then re-enable auto sync of saves so you can carry your progress over.

If you reach the same problem again thereafter just disable auto sync and delete the "profile" file again.

NOT THE SLOT A OR B OR C.

That's your game progress.

Please note this fix is only for people who've managed to launch the game.

Solution 2:

If you can't find the "Activision" Folder your game isn't initializing.
In that case go onto your desktop.
Press "Windows Key + S".
Open Device Manager.

Look for "Human Interface Devices".
Disable "HID-compliant consumer control device".

Open Steam.
Launch Prototype 2.

You might need both or only one of the fixes above but that's the best I can do for now.

Hope this will get you guys back into this gem of a game.

Neither fix is working for me. I've had this issue with other newly-installed games and my best fix was attempting to navigate to the graphics settings for windowed mode in-between tabbing into the game over and over again. However, I have an ultra wide monitor that tends to force fresh games to attempt fullscreen on an unusual resolution... probably my real problem. Will keep looking and trying new fixes.

Fixed! I disabled all 3 devices, changed the properties of the prototype exe to run as admin and w7 compatibilty, and lastly, I added the launch script "windowed". Works!

Mine crashes just before the menu and just after I click 'ok' on the prompt telling me that it's chosen to use mouse and keyboard.

I've tried everything, nothing. Help?

Hey man have you tried running as Admin, or changing the compatibility to Windows 7?

Windows XP service pack 3 might also be worth a try?
