American Conquest - Fight Back

American Conquest - Fight Back

Anybody running the game on Windows 10?
What the title says basically, just upgraded, giving me a black screen and nothing else.

I got it working first time then on changing resolution to my laptop setting it failed but still loaded after deleting appcashe folder and restarting steam. Then failed completely saying dmcr failed. Also not sure if its just me but the graphics look worse too on start up. Also managed to start a game of 2 AI all Spain working but tried to Delaware and 1 Portugal and it failed both attempts!

Mine is working but it stutters non stop. I don't know what the issue is.

Eh ♥♥♥♥ it I'll just do a clean install of the system at some point, hope it fixes it.

Am on the "trial" free Win10 thing so have options. Seriously will go back to pants Win8 just to play my fav games. That's just how I roll. Besides why buy games just for modern tech not to be able to get much older more basic tech to work. Crazy world we live in. Bring back service packs?

Yeah but I get a little bit of a performance boost in Win 10, not really sure how much but still, 3rd party software should not be the reason you stay using old OSes, plus there are many other options like dual booting, virtual machines, etc... But yeah, restricting yourself because of a 13 year old game is a big no-no for me.

I do what I enjoy, most of my laptop use is hobby over anything else. I have never had performance issues due to always having a clear harddrive, never been one to clog with endless stuff, thats also why I usually end up with older OS, its better than having to find and download possibly dodgy software just to make older games work. But then I am hard headed like that :P

This problem has been a thing ever since Windows 8, I just checked it, I've tried a few of the low number of solutions and still nothing.

Are there any active Devs on this thing for AC still? I did a report thing to Steam or through Steam to the owners or people in charge of putting AC up on Steam but if its long running issue from Win 8 even maybe there is not much hope unless not enough people have reported the issue throguh the alternative methods? Otherwise maybe if there are any dedicated people who run AC through other sites? Like this amazing site called Forged Alliance Forever (Supereme Commander for anyone unknowing of this) where they have a total dedication to mods, updates, compatibility patching et al all for this one awesome game.

Looked like there was no fix here yet, so I figured I'd share what I did to get AC:FB to work on Windows 10. I kept getting the resolution popup glitch that others have described, and now I can run this game (as well as the other old AC and Cossacks games) in my native 1600x900 resolution. I assume the black screen the OP described is related.

In the Steam Library, right click on the game -> properties -> local files -> browse local files.

Right click on "dmcr.exe" and click troubleshoot compatibility. This will take you through a wizard and will apply compatibility settings based on your computer and the game itself. Do the same for "dmln.exe" - both are in the same directory.

Hope it works for you. Peace.

Thank you Charles, that worked for me perfectly. Curious how compatibility didn't work for me when I did that through Win 10 program files rather than through Steam unless it is Steam that has the correct link and standard Win 10 has the glitch? Can finally get back to mass indigenous population take over again :D

Yeah I did that a while ago and it started working but forgot to post it here.

This method worked for me with the base game running fine in windows XP service pack 3 compatibility mode.
