Display Mode 1024X768x8 not found. Cossacks should not run?

That is the message I recieve on launch. As I start a game in single-player/multiplayer it just inevitably doesn't respond and tells to end its process. Is the game dead?

There was one time when I could launch the game properly by accessing the dmcr.exe file directly, in C:/Program Files(x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/American Conquest - Fight Back

Ok, I think I found out the solution! Go to the dmcr.exe file in C:/Program Files(x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/American Conquest - Fight Back, right click and select "Troubleshoot compatibility". Just follow the steps given by the wizard and you should be ok!

I was having various problems with the start-up as well. I fixed my problems by having the program run in reduced color mode. Find the DMCR.exe file in your Steam\steamapps\common folders. Right click on the exe file and go to the Compatibility tab and put a check in the Reduced color mode box and select 8-bit (256) color. I haven't had any problems sinse making that change.

Thanks for the solution folks. I was able to troubleshoot the compatibility and fix it. It would appear that the game was designed for Windows XP (SP3).

Does anyone know how to have the game in windowed mode without the errors that you have already mentioned?
The game was already going well for me, but if I touch something from full screen mode to window mode, I get the errors that you have already mentioned.

launching dmln.exe instead of DMCR.EXE did it for me
