American Conquest - Fight Back

My mod.
Hello good people of the forums and fellow fans of the series who still visit this game's forums on here, I have returned and have made good on my promise to make a mod for this game, and finally after a few months (it only took me a month to make it) and some playtesting today I deemed it worthy to post it here.

You just simply have to put it in your game directory, and that's it.

Everything should be working properly for you as it's working properly for me.

The mod features: Cossacks' pallisade walls, a missing passive defense I thought was needed in order to combat the Native American AI.

Indian Trade post now is also available for all European nations.

Experimental Guard Tower only for England taken from Hawk's European Warfare, so credits to them for the assets.

Issues: Sadly like with anything else, the mod has issues. One of which is a missing icon for the transformation of the gate, at the current moment it's just a black box, as well as the Open/Close ability for the said Gate when it's built, I cannot change these for now because I can't access the .gp file containing the icons which the game uses.

Strangely enough the AI didn't attack me due to some unknown reason so it might be because it can't outflank my forces or my town anymore, or the walls are just messing with it, I am not really sure.

The Guard tower is only limited to England, but since it's role is sort of the same like the Level 2 Blockhouse I didn't make it available to anyone else as I said, it's just an experiement, I might remove or leave it in the future.

A friend of mine who also playtested the mod for me reported that once he tried to delete the wall he crashed, but after I tried it today nothing happened so I am not sure of what's causing that as well.

The AI cannot attack the walls, and I have no idea or time on how to modify it.

The walls, trade post and Guard Tower are not touched by any upgrades, meaning you will always build them at the same speed and they will always have the same Armor/Defense and Hitpoints, listing custom structures to upgrades in order to improve them has turned out to be quite time consuming and confusing for me however, I might change them in a future update.


Future plans: For now this is only a Prototype or as I like it call it "Phase 1", Phase 2 will contain a few more changes such as buildings providing bigger population caps as well as European Nations being able to produce 17 Century muskets from the Lvl 1 Blockhouse and 18th Century muskets from the Lvl 2 Blockhouse, improved music and so forth, and Phase 3 is going to be polish like different and more music, improvement on sounds and so forth.

Since the default sounds are like a horse dying or something, it's harsh on the ears at least to me.

This is all for now, I am unsure that I will continue to work on the mod but this is what I had planned for it, my main problem is limited knowledge on the engine and how to fix bugs and limited time, but if anyone wants to try his hand or wants to modify my work, go right ahead. However I do respectfully request that you provide proper credits if you are going to post it anywhere, that is all.

You mean the fishing boats in Cossacks? And I don't know if that option about the peasants repairing on the inside is possible but hey, you can dream I guess. I'll have a look at it if I remember next time I'm hopefully in the files.

Yes the little fishing boats in cossacks. Just seems like the forts blow up far to quickly once they catch fire, and you need 30 peasants on the outside to fix them while being attacked. But ill just keep dreaming haha.
Thanks for the effort you've put into even attempting to mod AC, [PE]. The mod is a nice little touch to things - though I thought I'd point out that Russia doesn't get the pallisades to build.

Save for building a new mod from scratch, some unit diversity would be nice as an idea. Don't know if you could get their permission (they may as well be dead) but HAWKS were making a European Warfare II (based in the 18th century). There was, and is, a wealth of resources (troops, animations) in that incomplete mod that could be used in your endeavors in ACFB. https://www.moddb.com/mods/european-warfare-2-the-age-of-reason

Good luck, I never was able to get the GSC Utility (for modding) to work on windows 8.

Glorious gigs of nostalgia. Good on you for saving the content. I have the "transform to meat" file somewhere that enables bodies to stay on the battlefield (wished it worked for Cossacks BTW). So jiived that there's still a crowd out there playing.

Yeah, the more screenshots the more helpful it would be. I've been modding other games for years, but never tackled the Cossacks/AC/DN engine. I need to get a handle on it come some down time.

What are you looking to do with your future mod? Work with enhancing ACFB or resurrecting EWII?

Not that you can't get the mods from other sites, I just keep them on my computer in case if they vanish from there as well one day for one reason or another.

And again, SysWOW64 if you have a 64bit operating system, they need to be in System32 if you have a 32bit such.

As far as my plans go, this mod was meant to just take some features from Cossacks like the palisades and trade posts and combine them with AC along with some improvements that I deem well not needed but welcome you could say.

Apart from that I have a plan of remaking and improving the Napoleonic Warfare mod (HEW) but I doubt I'll be able to make it along the lines of Cossacks 2 unless I have the source code or something and even then I'll need to learn to code as well as just give it more time which is mostly a no go for me sadly.

I come back to mod the game once in an year for a week or 2 after that I just forget about it again until next year, this is the reason behind why I didn't know about the Russians not having the palisade walls until now lol.

Edit: I also really wish I knew how to fix the formation bug where if you tell the formation to march to some long distance on the map they stop halfway through, as if they get stuck on some rocks or trees or something, really weird. HEW fixed it and it wasn't a problem in the original AC but it's a problem in Fight Back and I just can't wrap my head around it.

Bit late to the party here but found your mod and it's just amazing so useful, is there a way to give all nations walls/fences, been trying to mod myself but I seem to be too stupid haha. Let me know if you can thank you.

Sadly the walls are broken and cannot be destroyed by the AI from what I've seen for myself and heard from others so I've given up on them at least for right now.

The other thing is that I'm dealing with other things at the moment so my hands are also unfortunately tied as far as modding myself goes because the game is somewhat simple, the problem is that it's mostly in Russian/Ukrainian so if you don't speak the language you need the wing the logic of it plus it's time consuming since things need to be references in multiple different places and files.

However if you add me on here or contact me on discord, you can find me on the American Conquest discord server there, I might be able to provide you with some pointers as to how to start.

There are also other modders there that might be able to help you out as well so it's worth a shot.
I don't have discord and i've been trying to decipher their computer lingo haha but i'm no good, i tried putting the walls part of the text into the other nation's files but it comes up with an error and then crashes so yeah. I'll add you on here if i figure out haha :P thanks for getting back to me :)
