mounts are absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless

before you ask: yes, i have "mount follows road" enabled. despite this, mounts will oftentime stop in the middle of the road because there is a small rock in the way. sometimes, they will stop in the middle of the road even when there's nothing there at all. once they stop, i have to turn them around and go another way before i can get them moving again.

they slow down constantly, and sometimes skip speeds to slow down, again, to a dead stop. and because the roads are absolutely *filled* with machines (why would people make paths directly through machine-inhabited sites? why would the more easily-spooked machines graze along trafficked roads in the first place?), this usually ends with another broadhorn knocking me to the ground and taking half my health in the process.

am i doing something wrong? why will my mount just run at a full sprint against a pebble and not move forward?

Have you tried disabling the "mount follows road" option? I've never had that enabled because I wanted to have full control over where I went while riding one of the available mounts. Give it a try and see if it helps to make using mounts better for you.

I did the quest and got right off the mount. Never used that again. In most games, mounts are terrifying. Steerable like a raging bull. ;)

The only use for mounts is to gallop/run away from a bunch of machines you don't waht to fight. I use mounts rarely, but there is one achievement (5 machine kills by jumping off your mount - don't know the name of that achievement in English) where you'll need it.

"5 Dismount Strikes"

One of the last achievements I got because I never use the mounts.

it works for me, liked it so far, similar to rdr2 not sure why people hated it it is actually kinda cool since you kill small machines with mounts and you can earily replace them. lol

Because it's not far into the game that you can get unlimited fast travel.

just get used to it and don't whine about it just because it's a minor inconvenience to you. arguably, the implementation of mounts in this game isn't perfect but it's not shoddy either.. adapt to it, your brain is more powerful than you believe

lmao there's nothing my brain can do about mounts running headlong into an invisible wall right in the middle of the road, especially not if they do it every other time i'm trying to ride past a machine site. if i can't use mounts for quick, hassle-free transportation, idk what to call them if not shoddy.

I have found mount riding can be a bit temperamental with keyboard and mouse in HZD.

like I said, it isn't perfect and that does happen, the best you can do is ignore it

I'd have to play the game more to know how I feel about mounts but from what I've seen it's a lot like the witcher wild hunt.

I've never found mounts in games to ever really be perfect, Geralt's Roach seems to be one of the best so far but I think it's because most paths you'd bring him through only have people in the way, virtually ever other game is full of rocks in the road like HZD and the path finding for mounts for some reason doesn't know how to deal with that

the worst is probably Shadow of the Colossus Agro. a colossus barely scratches the thing and Agro flings you to the next district, the ones you need him for are made more difficult by how much the horse just flips just being anywhere near the colossus, not to mention calling him gets him to run into the colossus being knocked around like a pachinko taking him ages to get back

compared to Agro, HZD mounts aren't that bad, at least the don't function on room temp IQ

If this is what you think about riding a mount in ZD do not do it in FW, its absolutely terrible, similar to Pencillus comment, the way mount riding works in rdr2 is way better, ZD mount riding is manageable, its a shame there isnt a cinematic camera while on mount and maybe a "follow road to waypoint" toggle would have been better but still, its a feature that some either like or hate....or can just stand, i would say im inbetween just standing and liking lol.
