A quick way to farm Echo Shells
There is a spot on a trail North of Tall Walker (Sun Steps). Take a line directly North from the Tall walker until you get to a snow covered mountain range, it's a long way from the tall walker. There you will find a campfire. For reference: Just to the East on your map is a trampler and looking west but much farther out is another trampler. At that campfire immediately west are two Longlegs. They each do circles that brush the same crop of red grass. I hid in the grass, and when the first one came by did a silent strike followed by a strong strike, both with the spear. That takes the animal down with no fuss or muss and not a single arrow was used. Together the two birds provide 6 Echo Shells. Then make the very short trip back to the campfire, save your game, quit the game, answer yes, then choose continue and the game restarts with two replacement Longlegs. Each animal consistently provides 3 Echo Shells. You can do 5 rounds in just a couple of minutes netting 30 Echo Shells that would have cost 1500 shards from a vendor. I spent the better part of a half hour to build up my supply before I go into what I think will be a long battle. I wish I had found this spot much earlier in the game. I would have saved so many shards and sparred myself the irritation of working for peanuts and only able to buy 10 or 15 Echo Shells at a time.

If you think the materials you need is hard to gather or farm, just farm Blaze it's the most easy material to gather or farm in the game.
You farm Blaze then sell them all to buy Echo Shells.

You mentioned that once before I think. Is that right? I seem to recall it, but doesn't the blaze sell for $20 or so. Essentially you would be trading 5 blaze for 2 echos. Is my math correct? are they that plentiful?

You could also go to Spearshafts and farm Longlegs by itself.

You don't have to quit the game, you can just restart from the last save after quick saving.

I have used this post - and it WORKS.

**** You don't have to save game and exit - just move away far enough that you can teleport back to the fire. **BEFORE YOU DO** - just go into crouch, do scan, and teleport.
----- I set up Explosive-Trip-Wire traps and make a "nice little nest" - but they STAY there as you do this over and over.

The "nest" stays - even when you move away to gather and then teleport back. So, you're "protective wall" of explosive traps just needs mending now and then in case mech wander too close.

I just make sure I'm full of sniper arrows, crouch, hit scan, and I pop up into my nest. I triple load my sniper shot and kill the first bird. The other one usually wanders up to investigate and I have time to do it again.

Go out - gather the Echo Shells (you get 6 - he was dead on about this) and rinse and repeat.

Hope my addition was helpful.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
