Unable to optimize the game from NVidia Geforce Experience
I just click on Optimize and nothing happens and the settings stay the same. Did anyone come across this and know of a fix?

But then how to upgrade the drivers?

Keep GeForce Experience but only use it to update your drivers.

Ignore the "Optimize" function, it's effectively redundant. Optimize the game settings manually yourself.

Yep. This. And i have detailed knowledge about how it does that - causing more bad than good, i mean. Should never be installed on _any_ gaming rig of any sort.

Directly from manufacturer's website. NVidia provides all kinds of driver packages. Be sure not to download from any 3rd-party websites, of course. Only use nvidia.com to get new drivers from. And be sure to do "custom" install and uncheck that geforce experience thing, every time you update your drivers.

I've been doing this for many years and i never had any issue with my GPU and/or its drivers.

Biased.

I have it installed as of using ShadowPlay for some games.
As my prefered recording software "Action!" does not work with ENB or ReShade, which is a shame.
Yet ShadowPlay does.

You can either turn off the automated game optimization which I always do.

I've had no problems with the driver download/install function of GE, but that is also the only feature of the program I use. I would never do the optimizing via GE, as often it sets things at a lower level than what my system can usually handle and I have yet to figure out how to make it work for me. And I have also turned off the GeForce Overlay, nor do I launch via GE. I could just do direct driver downloads, but then I wouldn't get automatic notifications of when the new drivers are available.

Anything you hear will mostly be anecdotal, but IMO, as someone who builds PCs professionally, I highly recommend not installing it either.

A) It's major draw is that you can install drivers in-app, which you really shouldn't be doing anyway. Wagnardsoft DDU exists for very good reasons and should be used from Windows safe-mode every time you install or rollback a driver install, otherwise you are not doing a clean driver install and all kinds of annoying issues can crop up from shader cache issues to partial driver remnants affecting previous game profiles and so on. It sounds like a bit of a pain until you realize it takes all of 2-3 extra minutes (much less with an SSD and fast boot) to just use DDU for every driver install.

B) It's other major draw is game optimization, which, I guess if you're like brand new to gaming might sort of make sense to use, but it's better to figure out what game settings mean and learn to trim the fat yourself. It's the difference between trusting a grocery store to make your dinner in their deli versus you making your own prime rib in the oven and side dishes on the stovetop. One is easy but iffy and the other is simply how it should be done.

C) Shadowplay. If you want to use Shadowplay to record, you're kind of stuck with using GFE, but... just like with DDU, there's a reason that software like OBS exists and is widely loved by streamers and youtubers and it's not because Shadowplay is better (it's not).
