You should finish the DLC before the last mission of the main game, though, just like all the sidequests.
From a lore pov, starting the DLC before going to Zero Dawn makes the most sense to me.
From a gaming pov I would go while at the Grave Hoard, pick up one or two bows and the spear modification and the return to the main game.
I'm playing on hard.
Nice one cheers, yea was thinking the same. About to embark on the journey(fast travel is for wimps) to grave hoard and wanted to have a nosy in the frozen wilds while I was there. Thanks for the answer.
However, your whole argument misses the point, because the rarity of the item has nothing to do with the decision if you use fast travel or not (you can also get by very fine by crafting your own fast travel kits when you need them). It is more a matter how you want to experience the game - on proper play-throughs I don't use it either, because it doesn't feel right to me. When I am grinding for something, however, I jump over the map like crazy.
It was hard, but I want this modifikation of the spear from the sidequest in north, in the hangar. And on the way, I collected some blue cristals for a special armour.
After that, I gone back to the main story.
