Really low texture resolution?
So I've been noticing that a lot of textures are bizarrely low resolution, even though I have the graphics settings set to favor quality relative to the PS4 version. I've tried disabling DLSS, setting DLSS to Quality rather than Balanced, I've tried adjusting the graphics settings, but no matter what I try there's a lot of muddy textures everywhere.

If necessary, my specs are AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3060 Laptop (which, unlike the desktop counterpart, is a 6GB card) and 32GB RAM, and I'm running Windows 11. The latest patch should also be installed.

I don't have this issue.

Full Tower Desktop PC
i9 9900KS (Water Cooled 360mm)
RTX 3070 TI
32G RAM
NVME SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB
Windows 11

Maybe AMD vs Intel is difference?

Would running out of VRAM give muddy textures?
Does 6GB instead of 8GB really matter?

I bring up VRAM because the desktop 3060 is a 12GB card, whereas the laptop version is not. This should help avoid confusion, yeah?

Anyway since posting this thread I've verified the game cache, started it up to disable DLSS, then closed and relaunched it, and then loaded up my save file, but as you can probably see here... textures still are a bit muddy.

update: I moved a bit and the textures became muddier https://i.imgur.com/rBjkrxw.jpg

I mentioned 8GB because comparing my system to yours.
3070 TI is 8GB.

Anyway, I can see those muddy textures looking at the rocks in your pic.
Its like the textures are still loading or never loaded. Weird.

For Graphics settings, I keep mine on original preset. I don't go above that.
DLSS Quality.
Not that it matters since you have tried all the different settings.

I used to have an 8GB card too. 1070, then RX 5700. That PC died and I have been traveling more so I decided to get a laptop to replace it. I kinda wish I coulda afforded the 3070 model of the Legion 5 Pro ^^;

But ah well. This is really weird, since I've had a similar issue with only two games. I had a similar issue with Control but that was resolved with a mod to force texture loads to be more aggressive. In this case, I assume I have to rely on Guerrilla to fix texture loading.

Makes sense.
I hope they fix it for you :)

Yeah me too. I've read about other people having issues with this game on Windows 11, and I cba to install Windows 10 so lmao guess I'll just need to wait for Guerrilla to release a new patch.

Ah, reminds me of when this game crashed the whole system on AMD due to a driver bug. Couldn't play for months!

Huh. Figured it might be texture LOD because lots of devs forget that needs to be different when dlss is active, but, you tried turning off dlss and that generally results in the textures going back to normal.

Still, worth at least trying.

You'll need to download nvidia profile inspector for this.

Load the program, type horizon into the profiles box at the top to find the HZD profile.

Scroll down to the Texture Filtering section.

On the line that says Texture Filtering - LOD Bias (DX) it should say +0.0000.

Change that to -1.5000.

Change Texture Filtering - Negative LOD Bias to Allow if it's not set to that already.

Click apply changes in the top right corner.

Run the game.

Helps with texture blur in dlss on some games where they forget to do it via the game its self. Nioh 2 is a prime example.

Oh, figure I'll throw the PCGW page about profile inspector here so you can find a safe link to it.

Seems like you are happy but this might be worth a shot too, if you still having issues.

So, Nvidia stores texture cache here.

%localappdata%\NVIDIA\DxCache

Turn off texture caching in Nvidia drivers.
Delete the cache textures in DxCache folder. *Might need reboot before this step.
Reboot Windows.
Verify DxCache folder remained empty after reboot.
Turn texture Caching back on in Nvidia drivers.
*Maybe another reboot here.
Start HZD and test.

Basically, you are removing the current texture cache so it can rebuild.

I'll try that tomorrow. I'm gonna complete this quest and call it a night.
