I suddenly have 8 skill points.

I am at second to last mission. I went and collected the Armor, then noticed I missed a vantage point near Gaia. After collecting the armor I think I had 1 skill point. I got the final vantage point and then sat and read through the guys story, When I was done, I had 8 skill points. Did I get those from getting the final vantage point or from reading them?

Same thing happened to me when I finished the last Vantage point. I had one skill point in the bank (so to speak,) and ended up with nine in my bank after the final Vantage. I always listened to them while viewing the "past" so I could screenshot them. I was a few missions away from the final mission so i capped off the skill trees and went about my game.

I missed the armour first time through because I didn't find all the power cores. I am NG+ now and plan to get the armour this game cycle, but I will need to find 3 more power cells as it stands.

EDIT: I have checked out a few walk-throughs for the Vantage Points specifically and sites like IGN and GameFAQ don't even mentioned rewards for the Vantage Points.

You get 1 skill point for each set of 4 vantage points.

that would account for 3, but I got 11 out of 12 a long time ago.
