What difficulty level would you recommend for first playthrough?
I have been playing in ultra hard difficulty and it is quite demanding. I am not even halfway through the game, I just don't want to ruin my experience if it gets too tough.
While at the same time turning down difficulty seems tricky since I am used to this difficulty.

You have to think out of the box and use every tool available to you wheter be it hacking trip wires or bombs. it was very satisfying. but enemies are very agressive and you die a lot. so if you think you can handle dying a lot until you learn the ropes go for it. only things that felt impossible at times and annoying was the timed trials. you gonna have to grind too much to get the best weapons since they're too expensive though. last piece of advice dont play frozen wastes before finishing the campaing. its so difficult it makes the rest of the game feel too easy and you also get access to most powerful weapons in the game there it trivilizes the rest of the game. I regreted it going there before the final mission because it made the end boss too easy.

Ultra is mostly intended for NG+ with a reasonable weapon loadout going in.

Personally, I find the default hard mode to be the best balance. Story is a joke, and normal is still a bit overly easy in places.

I guess I will stick with it then.
I am yet to fight my first Thunderjaw, if I can take it down I guess ultra hard is still possible. Otherwise I will just switch to hard.

first one is gonna be hard not gonna lie. I would go to big city and try to get the best weapons first and finish trials if you can they give some cool weapons. dont forget to mod them and there is a skill for letting you equip and unequip your mods to your hearts desire.
