amd radeon driver timeout
driver timeout with amd drivers

what i've tested so far and nothing could prevent the game from crashing

.) disabled steam overlay
.) setting -> fullscreen
.) disable freesync
.) let shaders compile each time 100 %
.) do not switch to desktop
.) various amd drivers (different versions)

- - - - nothing helped so far;

still it seems to be software related because the card works on linux (same system, dual boot) - maybe dx12 related ?!?

Run dxdiag and have a look at the output. If anything is wrong with DX12, it should tell you.

'driver timeout' seems to be a common problem with amd drivers since i've been doing some resarch on the internet prior to posting here.

what i meant was the driver in connection with dx12;
if windows dx12 does not work then there is no solution.

do a clean install of drivers using DDU and check temperatures, also try older releases. You clean install because once that crash happens it can corrupt a system file that won't get repaired so the error happens more and more.

you can also change the time out settings to something longer so it has more time to recover. I think you need to regedit, haven't had to do this in a long time but it happens to every gpu not just amd.

yes i've reinstalled all chipset drivers, used different versions of the radeon driver, removed them all and used the ones from windows update.

… … but it's still the same … …

it's always the same, game crash because of driver timeout.

i've tried everything already; but maybe someone ran into the same problem.

there does not seem to be any fix but i want to know what's causing this and what this message (driver timeout) means.

on the amd website they talk about faulty hardware but the hardware (gpu) works with everything else so let's assume it's not the hardware.

did you clean install with ddu?

also check temps?

Thornok Apr 20, 2021 @ 2:58pm
yes, somebody had the same issue ?????

Thornok Apr 20, 2021 @ 3:04pm
you can look it up on google for youself if you like

yea I am quire familiar with that issue and have fixed it numerous times.

if you actually did all that and didn't just say so (clean install is vital so if you aren't going into safe mode and using DDU you're not doing it right) then I'm out of ideas.

I'm not watching the videos as I've already fixed it for myself and other people (not this game but yea this issue is common) but it looks like one of them in the link from google does pretty much go over the same steps.

Sorry to hear these steps have not worked for you.

do you think i am using a computer for the first time ?
Infected Shogun Apr 21, 2021 @ 8:27am
No I do not but I can't assume what you've done or not and based on experience a lot of people shy away from that step and just lie saying they did it.

I understand your frustration but try to remember I'm here trying to help you. I'm not trolling you giving you the run around with pointless steps, these are legit fixes for that issue.

there is no furstration but how many times do you want me to say 'yes' i did that already ?

i have tried all possible drivers in combination with auto-install (will remove old drivers as well) and the cleanup-utility.

yesterday i installed a new driver (recent date) again because of this driver timeout using the auto-detect setup which will install chipset-drivers and other things as well and it did not crash yet but i expect it to crash at any moment.

my guess would be it's the gpu driver causing this.

in fact i have other games that never crashed still it might be related to dx12 because still dx12 is new, more or less, and there are not that many games using dx12.

it could be a driver issue, could be just the game has some weird issue with something in your setup as well. Hence all of the steps to delete variables right lol.

I mean you should understand my confusion when you just say "cleanup utility" and "auto-install" and not specifically DDU

amd has their own utility which doesn't work right, and "auto-install" does not remove all files, it leaves behind corrupt files.

I have a vega 64 and have been playing this with the past few driver releases so it isn't something exclusive to all amd cards with this game.

i had this kind of crash in the past with 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider' & DX12 too.

yes amd has the 'AMD Cleanup Utility'

and i have used the auto install tool which detects all your hardware.

Infected Shogun Apr 21, 2021 @ 9:44am
the cleanup utility does not work correctly, use DDU.
Thornok Apr 21, 2021 @ 10:24am
i am not going to use any third party tools that do not solve th issue then :)
