You prove my point, this type of crap happens in millions of video games that have completely normal protagonists. The developers didn't make her talk to herself because of the bullshite you made up, they did it because it's the norm for the industry to have a protagonist that cannot shut up.
So why praise this crap? Other games with protagonist commentary allow you to disable it... and plenty of other games have it equally as excessive. It has nothing to do with Aloy or her past... only what is normal for the industry.
Geralt talks to himself just as much, if not more, than Aloy. I don't see anybody complaining about that. It shows you his deductive reasoning skills and personality, a lot like Aloy.
You can always play the Metro games if you want silent protagonists to the point of silliness.
This game reflects that very well.
It taps into using a different sense - audio - instead of purely relying on visual information. By that nature it also allows you some awareness of the characters thoughts that you'd otherwise not be aware of.
It's about creating a character rather than a drone.
Also note that many people do mutter and talk to themselves - either in their head or out loud (esp if they are or think they are alone). It's normal human behaviour
As for personal commentary, I wish there was a way to disable it. After the billionth time Aloy has said the same thing, it's time to turn it off. But, it is pretty standard. Bayek says he has to be cautious a million-zillion times in AC Origins. Hated that.
Now I do agree it gets annoying when she says her feet are wet for the 100th time. Yes, your feet get wet when they go into the water. But I digress.
Add that to a character who has been socially isolated most of their lives, no surprise there. I know actual people who talk to themselves at least that much for the exact same reasons.
I mean, at least it isn't villains explaining their detailed plans to the hero before leaving them in a death trap but not actually sticking around to see them die....
You should have seen Jessie from CONTROL LMAO
