Is this game worth getting now for PC over PS5?

I bough the complete PS4 version on the cheap but I also did some minor upgrades for my computer. I now have a 12700K (DDR5) with an RTX 3080. I like to game at 4K/120hz but like to drop some settings here and there as long as I can maintain a 90fps average with gsync. Does the game even stay consistent at 60fps on console? I honestly haven't taken the game out of the package but I'll probably sell it if the PC version has better framerate support. Anyone else have a similar setup?

No. HZD runs at 30fps on the PlayStation. There is no 60fps mode when running it on the PS5, it uses the PS4Pro settings, eg, 1800p checkerboarded to 4K, with a 30fps target. Technically, running it on the PS5 does lock that setting to 30fps vs the Pro's 'best attempt target'.

You shouldn't have any issues running HZD at 4K120 on that PC though, and the Dualshock 4 controller is fully supported.

PS5 'remaster' for HZD still unconfirmed and speculative.

I have it on PS5 and it works at 60fps. Note that it's checker-boarded 4k (I don't think there's any native 4k game on PS5 that runs at 60fps though).

Wrong. Literally got a 60fps patch specifically for PS5 two years ago.

Still its worth getting it over PS5. Higher frames, better fidelity and option to play 21:9 or 32:9. Its much smarter to buy in on PC if you have to choose one.

Hello Wyatt it is deffo worth getting for pc , in 20 years of pc gaming it is the only game i completed and started again the next day , i usually wait about a year before going back to something.

the 4k pc version i played looked stunning on a 3080. my impression was that texures load earlier and look slightly better on pc. you will get full 60 fps with dlss.

Horizon Forbidden West (HFW) future arrival onto PC's isn't exactly any fresh news... apart the fact that it never was an expansion.
It's a sole game from the same universe (that happens to have an expansion of its own but on Steam those will come bundled from the get go like it occurred upon HZD: Complete Edition).

HZD works flawlessly on my old laptop (840M GPU with 4GB VRAM, 16GB DDR3 RAM) at medium quality settings.

Please note: due to the way this game was optimized, its ultra quality setting will be visibly very similar to high quality setting, so don't expect 4K level fidelity in this game. Think of it as 2K level fidelity and it will play at 90 to 120 fps on any decent rig.

Game also works well with KBM and loads superfast on my old PC and does not stutter or crash, so I would consider it a decent port to PC, especially after all the patches it got from the hardworking devs to fix the initial issues.

Compare this to God of War, which is an awful port to PC - the mouse aiming and camera view themselves are a nightmare. And that game hates old PCs, I had to run through hoops to get it even launch on my PC, and it still ran like an uncontrollable slomo slideslow.

So yeah, go ahead and grab the PC version of HZD - it's usually a steal deal on Steam, as a Complete Edition with all DLCs!

Best of all - there are no microtransactions crap in this game, and there are several great mods for the PC version of game! Check out the NexusMods and Github.

I dont know if it got fixed as its a long time since i used it.
I got it when it first came out , the problem is the shader optimiser , it used to kiick in every time you launch the game.

Their are 2 clues to when this is happening , your cpu will hit 100% and the waterfall at bottom right of menu screen will stutter , i used to wait till it sorted itself out before entering the game. Its a pain in the **** but at least there is a way round it.

Absolutely, all those initial problems got fixed (but check the forum here if you still face any issue; e.g., there's an easy sound setting fix for a rare crash issue). Game should run butter smooth now, as your rig is quite decent.
