How do I know this you ask? Once I was reloading a manual save, during which I noticed that among the various auto saves there were some of my earlier run with Aloy, as an adult (let's say level six), looting the Nora Ruins, There were at least three points in the Nora ruins that had auto saved. I'm under the impression this also occurs even during her first visit to the Nora Ruins as a six year old when she acquires the Focus. Why? I've no clue how I know or why I think that, just a vague memory of once seeing an auto save of six year old Aloy in the Nora Ruins.
I suppose one could select to "load from save" just to see if there was a recent auto save (or quick save or manual save for that matter) that was suitable for one's purposes. If there wasn't then back out and continue play and check again after a while.
As I vagelly recall both those Horizon Zero Dawn (HZD) quests[horizon.fandom.com] had a few auto saving points in amidst their progression, so... I'd advise you to look loading those from HZD's main menu and try to search in there for the latest auto saves (which probably are tied to those quests).
I've never felt that before but probably because my 1st playthrough of HZD (Complete Edition, ofc) was done upon the "Normal Difficulty" level of the game.
Usually after a cutscene and/or before a big fight. Never had an issue with it.
If you want to be sure before you take a break, just open the Load menue and check the time stamp on your latest autosave.
But game itself does autosave at checkpoints in dungeons, though they may not be as convenient as we want. e.g., in a Cauldron, if Aloy dies in a boss fight. she may respawn several floors above, from where she rappeled into the Cauldron.
Although I initially downloaded that Aloy's Adjustments mod (manager, if not mistaken upon my initial assessment) from the Nexus Mods site[www.nexusmods.com] to see if I could use the consoles only armour aesthetics upon some other existing armour, I've never quite got the hang of it and thus it's idly sitting at my "HZD - Mods" folder.
You can get it from its GitHub page - make sure to download the latest release.
Run its exe/app, it ought to automatically detect the game folder for Steam version of HZD.
You can change several things via this mod app, under corresponding tab/section:
* the outfits model swaps
* NPC character model swaps
* satchel upgrades for weapons, outfits, resources, and modifications
* ammo upgrades
* disable the intro logos and in-game music
Make sure to click "Install Pack" at bottom right corner of the app, as that'll create and install the mod file that contains the custom settings you changed through this app
There's another tweaker mod on Nexus called "Gameplay Tweaks & Cheat Menu", that allows lots of custom changes via its config file and via a nifty in-game menu too. You can do a lot of advanced things using that menu, including providing the extra collector's (preorder exclusive) items that are missing from the Complete Edition of the game, and tweaks & actions such as the satchel upgrades, ammo upgrades, changing weather temporarily, spawning enemies, enabling noclip and flymode, disabling AI behaviour (for free roam), disabling DoF, disabling intro videos, etc.
Both these mods works for me with latest version of the game, so give them a try!
