It's automatic friend. Look at the bottom of your Steam and you'll see "Downloads". Click it and you can force it.

If you don't believe you've downloaded the patch, verify the integrity of the game files. That's the quick and easy way to confirm an update.

The slower and arguably more reliable way, is to delete the game and completely re-install it.

Showing the game version would also help another way is to browse local files through settings and see when the game .exe file was last modified. That should be the date it was patched and should not be the same as the Created date, or last accessed.

Patches don't always change the executable.

The patch was only 1.5MB and certainly not this size.[i.imgur.com]

Is your game crashing, and not allowing you to open it? I guess I did install the update, because it is not in my downloads, but now my game is crashing every time I try and open it. Any thoughts?

One thing you can try that I've seen others have success with is navigating to this path:

C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Horizon Zero Dawn\Saved Game

And deleting the folder called "profile".

Don't forget to backup!
