Nvidia owner possible fix for stutter. + GPU scheduling bug as answer to fix
GO straight to the answer I selected for that thread instead. if you have
Win 10 V2004
Nvidia driver up to date and higher than 451.48
Or else the GPU Scheduling thing wont appear nor would it be an issue for you.

If you do
Its only a toggle on/off to try out. + a few extra thing Dumpster fire said that couldnt hurt much.

Hope it help someone.

---------------------------------------------------

This is for Stutter problem. Not crashing issue.

Didnt had much of issue before but a few stutter here and there. But in the last quest it was stuttering alots and lotsa texture started to bug. As soon as I got into the frozen wilds, Darn it was stutering like crazy and all texture got messed up.

So I remember the launch of DBH and why so many people where having problem while other wasnt. it was a big part nvidia driver.

So if your game is stuttering alots. try Nvidia driver 446.14 game ready WHQL as a clean install.
Install as normal.
- Driver only
- Custom
- Check perform clean install. Keep not it will propablly remove your game setting. As It remove driver and re-install them proprelly.

Since I got back to that driver the game is way more fluid an no more stuttering. Even tho I didnt had much before prior to patch and even after patch. Now its zero stutter.

You'll get an annoying popup to tell you your driver out of date each time you start the game, but who care if those drivers are way better than the latest :/
Also going to get through the pre caching shader once more.

Hope it help anyone, as It did for many with DBH at launch and improve alots for me on this game.

*edited added in game setting + pc spec

PC spec:
I5 7600k @3800
16Gb DDR4
RTX 2700 Driver 446.14 "clean install"

Display setting:
Those will greatly help.
1080p @ 60Hz monitor
Vsynch on
Adaptative performance FPS = off
FPS limiter=Unlimited. You set it otherwise could mess thing up
Render scale = 100%
Aspect Ratio 16:9
Display mode Fullscreen. going borderless will impact and cause stutter. So fullscreen only.
Refresh rate 60Hz
Vsynch on

Graphics setting
Up to your choice or GFX that can handdle.
Ultra (custom)
Motion blurr off
Anisotropic filter High. If I go ultra it sometime have micro stutter. At high. none. So you might want to play with this setting depending on your GFX card.

For me GPU scheduling was the culprit. Turning it off made framerate stable. I'm using latest non-hotfix driver.

I just wanted to post real quick and thank you... your suggestion about turning off GPU Scheduling just fixed my game completely.

I was stuttering every couple of seconds with the frame rate falling from 60 to 54 and turning off GPU scheduling along with Variable Refresh Rate (don't know if that had anything to do with it though) and rebooting fixed it entirely. No more stuttering, at all.

Thank you so much for posting this. See folks, seemingly small things you discover like this, can make all the different for someone else.

Thanks again!

ALSO - I'd like to add while I'm here - I have been posting around here making noise about the patch 1.01 making me stutter and drop frames when I didn't before the patch. Well, turns out that optimizing the game again at startup fixed that for me.

I just deleted the C:\Program Files (x86\Steam\common\Horizon Zero Dawn\LocalCacheDX12 folder, verified the game files to make sure nothing important was missing from that folder, then restarted the game and let it re-optimize, that fixed ALL of the post-patch problems I was having.

I'm now running the game smoother than I did on release, no stutter, no frame drops, no crashes, Ultra settings, 1440p.

Great :)

Because its just a hotfix for a hotfix. Nothing will be better, just the number change.

This hotfix driver fixed many issues for me in other games (freezing, low frame rate) , so they clearly changed *something*. Not sure if it has any impact on this game though.

Sapphire, also keep in mind you need to have latest nvidia driver and win10 V2004. If one of those you dont have, the option wont show up.

This is off for me by default.

Came back to report that going back to 446.14 is the best driver for my build and HZD, currently. It's buttery smooth. No FPS drops, stuttering, or technical hitches.

i5-8600K and RTX 2070 Super XC.

Update: Spoke too soon. Going back to 452.06.
