Game is almost too big/long
Should I just skip most the side stuff? I've been doing so much of it and wondering if collecting everything is going to be worth it in the end.

The story is intriguing but this could be 150 hours of content and I got more games to play.

Any completionists out there who might shed some light on what we absolutely should 100%, for reward/benefit, and things which we can just kind of pass over because the benefit is either negligible or there is none at all?

I picked up collectibles when I ran into them but didn't go out of my way to find them. This is the way I can find myself finishing these bloated games in a reasonable amount of time as I used to try to do everything and didn't finish open world games anymore for years. I just went back and played through frozen wilds a few days ago after being burned out from finishing the main game several months ago and just got Forbidden west to start playing on PS5. I intend to do the same thing with that one. I'm happy I finished it so I can finally talk plot with a good friend for whom that game is his favorite, and I feel satisfied. Finally don't force yourself, a game is meant to be fun after all, if you don't have fun with it, just move on to something else. EDIT: I actually mostly ignored hunter's lodge and cauldrons. If I didn't have forbidden west that I want to get started in, I might have gone back to do the cauldrons as well for fun. The only thing I want to do is one more side quest in frozen wilds before moving on.

How is Frozen WIlds?

Frozen wilds is good, I really enjoyed the story though it technically counts as side quest. Gave me a good 10-15 hours more of gameplay and expands a bit on a couple of characters that I'm pretty sure will be in the sequel, well at least one of them, trying not to spoil it here.

It also gives important additional context to the nature of the Derangement.

Do we ever find out what YEAR it is? Like how many years have passed in the 2060's?

I want to know what year they're in. (spoil it for me if you know) because i'm nearing the end of the story and it hasn't been revealed yet. as far as i can tell.

Without spoiling, I can say that context clues in the base game will indeed reveal what year it is in the time period Aloy is playing in, as well as what year the "metal world" people lived in. Further, the Frozen Wilds expansion will give context clues as to what time period the "metal world" buildings and artifacts are from in that area.

Do you have a terminal illness or what's with the rush to play other games?

As a note it took me around 40 hours for one full playthrough, and that's with -some- sidequests and exploration, getting the shield-suit, etc. I didn't do absolutely everything but if you just kinda go with your whims the game shouldn't be TOO terribly long. But by nature of open worlds there's a lot of road traversal and side stuff to do. Should just let yourself get distracted.
Emanouche Nov 14, 2022 @ 11:36am
To be honest, I didn't care or payed much attention about the year, I know it's about 1000 years after the fall of civilization though, so if you look at data and at the year of one of those and add 1000 years, you should approximately get when the game happens.

when this first came out i completed it and the following day i did it all again its the only game i ever done that on .

Unusual for a game of this type you need to listen to all the cut scenes or you wont get where its going and at the end dont skip the credits or you will miss a twist.

In one post a guy wrote he got fed up watching a little child running about in a cave so got a refund ..... he obvious did not use it for long

I did nearly everything, including achievements. Just a bit shy of 150hrs.
Still have to finish Frozen Wild main quest and craft a bit and that's it.
The game is absolutely great. It's doesn't bore me to do anything in it really, from small errands and hunting to completing quests.
Just play and enjoy, people don't need to speedrun their games, but take time and enjoy.

Any notion of "benefit" or "necessary" just depends on whether you're enjoying that part of the game or not. I prefer to play these games slowly and thoroughly explore everything, and the more time it takes for me to do that, the better. I wouldn't enjoy the "speed-run the game then move on to next game" approach. But each to their own.

considering the high price some games demand unless you wait for steam sale , how can you say any game is too long , this is the only game i completed and started again the following day , i usually give them a rest for a year after completion .

Total playing time for both playthrough = 148 so that 74 hours each , how can that be considered too long
