Both Stoicism which is Greek and Buddism which is Eastern aim for an non-emotional approach, though very few people actually can maintain an un-emotional state for long, its not human nature.
I think they both teach people not to be controlled by your emotions, To feel emotions but act out of reason nontheless, instead of letting your emotions take you over completely.
I know you probably mean the same but the way you wrote it makes it sound a bit like they teach you 'not to feel anything'.
In the meantime Aloy is really growing on me and I treasure our time together
With regards to her having no emotion ,,,, well just wait and see what happens at the end.
I like the idea that games can challenge stereotypes. And there's the real problem for the OP.
I play a number of current open world games and the protagonists are all similar. Some of HZD team worked on S of M and Talion is similar. But mostly I think they brought the combat system to HZD.
Heck Arthur in RD2 even has a morality meter which changes how people react to him. Even rogue biker Deek in DG is similar, takes a moral stance and helps out everyone(while moaning about it!).
But should we be expecting too much from a character in a game, they are merely our avatar. partially sketched out, with choices even in dialogue. And NPC's are pretty repetitive and boring in most games.
I enjoy this game, it seems even better graphically since update. And the more powerful, skilled and tooled up you make Aloy, the more fun it becomes. Stormbirds flee, Ha Ha finally.
All i can say is they cant of used it much because it does not come alive to after her training followed by a brilliant cut scene
I have played almost every Tomb Raider game and Never though any less of Lara, she is a very well balanced female character in every way, which I cant say for Aloy. Does every female character need to be a copy of Lara? Certainly not, I also played a few other female led games and never though twice about them not being males.
Its only when a female character (like Aloy) tries to fit the shoes of a male character.. and fails miserably that I take exception.
In over 100hrs playing this game I never felt she's trying to fit (or fill) anyone's shoes.
Same here.
And that would be perfectly fine, there are plenty of male characters that do that.. IF if she and the game did not take this so seriously and try to make it look as if she wasnt a super-hero just a normal girl. Or if there was some explanation as to her "powers" ie. shes some genetically enginered human/machine hybrid etc. than I could buy her character.. I cant buy her as long as I am supposed to believe she is just human..
..she's Captain Marvel, Rey (sic.)Skywalker, Wonder Woman only that those characters had a reason to be overpowered Aloy does not.
Her only exposure were hostile people that shunned and degraded her except that 1 man. How could she NOT end up somewhat unemotional and have nerves of steel ?
She didnt go to sleep overs or have boyfreinds that broke her heart, she had a hostile world where she had to keep calm and make the correct decision w/o getting emotional.
1 role model your entire life and ofc you will be ALOT like them, she knows no other way to be but semi super human.
I have been through some though shi-t in my life and I know things dont always work out in your favor even if you try hard and mean well.. while Aloy takes every emotional and rational problem in stride, even almost instantly "forgetting" her father-figure(there is almost no mention of him later in the game), never showing the slightest sign of weakness or inner conflict(even to her self). I dont care how tough you are, you ARE going to have inner deamons.
This takes all the (real) emotions out of the game, I cant take anything seriously, and yes I have had man tears before while playing games, while in HZD I can smirk at best at the vain attempts to sell me "emotions" I know are just manufactured fantasies of liberally minded story writers having no clue how the real world works.
