game is crashing after 20-30 min (UPDATED) with possible fixes.

as the title says the game is crashing every 20-30 min. Also when im just standing on one point game still crashes. I had no problems with the game before the new patch. so my guess is the new patch broke something on few configurations.

my RIG

10900k 85 degrees
3090RTX 80 degress
32GB RAM 4000MHZ
SSD Samsung 970 Evo plus 1TB over 400GB free space

im hoping for a fix ASAP or maybe someone knows why my game is crashing. Temps are looking fine im playing at 4k resolution maxed settings and DLSS.

Edit: POSSIBLE FIXES.

Please go to the horizon zero Dawn.exe right click compatibility disable fullscreen optimization and select run program as administrator. and select Ultra Latency Nvidia Control Panel also set highest possible Refresh rate for Horizon via Nvidia control Panel.

with all 3 options Horizon was running fine without a crash. Strange thing was disabling 1 option of 3 game crashed again. tested all options alone and again crashed. then enabled back all 3 options and the game was running fine for over a hour. i have limited the FPS ingame to 60 FPS. I don't know how much that helped. im done doing testings with that game im just gonna play it as long as it runs good. with those steps ive mentioned my game was running fine.

it looks like i have to restart every time my pc for example : doing the 3 fixes above and start my game I can play as much as I want no crash, when i switch now to the main menu and press continue, the game crashes again so rebooting my pc and start the game no crash, switching to the main menu and playing again crash after 30-30 min.

3: Verify game files on Steam:

Open your Steam client and go to your LIBRARY. From the left menu, right-click Horizon Zero Dawn and select Properties
In the pop-up window, navigate to the LOCAL FILES tab and select VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES…. Then wait for the checking to complete.

4: Disable in-game overlays

At the top-left corner of your Steam client, click Steam and select Settings. From the left menu, select In-Game. Under the Steam Overlay section, uncheck these boxes. Then click OK.

5: Increase virtual memory. Some people reported back this fix helped them to avoid game crash.

For 16GB RAM use the Number 16384

For 32GB RAM use the number 32768

6: Possible fix crash on start up.

Disable cloud save sync for HZD in steam (under updates)
Make sure that nvidia geforce experience has not optimized your game settings by clicking revert if necessary.
Backup, then delete the "profile" folder inside your savegame directory folder in documents.
Start the game (hopefully!), make a save, quit.
Re-enable steam cloud save sync.

7: Disable XMP Profile, disable all Overclocking use borderless Window.

8: Enable or Disable HAGS

To enable it in Windows go to Settings > Display Settings > Graphics Settings and just enable Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling. and a compatible Nvidia card to enable this feature.

9:Game Crash because of wrong Sound Settings.

tested Resident Evil Village and DMC5 both games working fine with maxed settings 4k. no crash no stutter. i have no idea why Horizon is crashing every time.

The game tends to not take well to third party sound software such as Nahimic.

Downloaded the 1.10 GOG version ONLY FOR TESTING PURPOSES and for over 1 hour its looking fine no crash nothing. Ill delete the gog version after more tests.

Yes same here. I’ve played yesterday control on max settings 4k over 3 hours no crash. Horizon zero Dawn is the only game crashing. Since the 1.10 GOG version is also crashing the issue is probably a driver issue ??? Let’s hope Guerilla and nixxes figured it out what the issue is.

Just for horizon I completely reinstalled windows 10 and 11 pro, drivers are all up to date chipsets too. Event Manager is showing no errors. Pc works in all games as it should.

Forgot to update that verifying the files through steam fixed it for me. The update either corrupted or was missing something.

have y'all just tried...uninstalling the game and then installing it clean again? cause I just downloaded the game new-ish (beat it on ps4, but replaying + inventory mod...) and it's been running fine for me, 6-7 hours straight no crashes, no bugs (unless you count a bit of a trippy bloom/blur combo, but that was just cause my graphics driver was like 3 years old...)

Same exact situation. I can play sometimes up to an hour at first, but once it crashes, then the sessions are much shorter before a crash. Wiped the old install clean and started fresh again and issue persists. I wonder if it does have to do with the 3090s. I also encountered a funny bug where Aloy skates on one leg. This happened right as I was fighting a stormbird. I've never had any issues until the latest group of updates.

Well i hope Guerrilla or Nixxes is looking into that issue. SteamDB Depots are showing last update 7 days ago.
