shoot plates off machines not working?

I got the quest after i bought the Banuk version of the bow, and it wouldn't work at all, even though other banuk quests were smooth. This one is for the shadow hunter bow, so im not sure if i really need that bow to get the quest done, or banuk version should work as well, same like other quests with different weapon verisons/qualities.

Are we talking about one of those tutorial quests?
The most common issue with those is that you have to have them actually active for it to count.

yeah tutorials, and i do realize i have to have them on, which isn't a big deal, but this particular one never advance, no matter what.

Checked YT vid where the player had it stuck at 0/10 and after few times it was finished, in my case nope, killing half the map and still nothing. im thinking of giving up, since i don't think i will need the exp anymore lol, lvl 53 and main mission on lvl 12 still.

The Banuk Bows can be a little tricky to use to complete the associated weapon tutorial quest. For the Shadow Hunter Bow you have to use the Hardpoint arrows to shoot plates off machines, I did this tutorial quest on my current play-through about a week ago so it is certainly working correctly. Are you shooting plates off machines without actually killing the machine? With the Banuk bows if you're overdrawing you do extra damage which may be enough to kill smaller machines before any plates are removed or before you get credit for removing plates. Also, are you using single arrows, double-shot or triple-shot?

Suggestions for completing the tutorial quest: make sure you have the Hardpoint arrows equipped; avoid killing machines too quickly; avoid overdrawing if you're targeting smaller machines; use single arrows for smaller machines, double-shot for medium machines and triple-shot for large machines; ensure you've activated the correct quest and keep the quest active until completed.

To give more info, i tried both types of arrows, banuk and went to buy shadow bow as well, had the quest on, removed plates from different type of machines, they weren't killed, to the point that low levels were walking without plates, or else they would die from 2 or 3 hits.

Always single arrow, the plates are physically removed and can be seen, yet no progress towards the quest.

So I encountered this same error... When I played HZD on PS4 I did not encounter this but when I revisited the game on Steam years later, I had this issue. I literally did everything else on my initial playthru, 100% missions, lvl60 etc... but this one tutorial mission remained before the endgame. I tried everything suggested all over the Internet and nothing worked.

Here is how I completed it:
1. Re-purchased and equipped the Shadow Hunter Bow, added mods for 'Tear' only
2. Switched ammo to Hardpoint (best for tear on that bow)
3. Activated the Tutorial mission as the active mission - 0/10 plates to be shot off
4. Shot one (1) plate off the back of a Strider and was awarded all 10 plates
5. Mission successfully completed

...it would appear that the game was actually registering all the plates I was shooting during my playthru but did not actually 'register' the hits until the steps above. And seriously, I only shot one (1) plate off the back of a Strider and all 10 hits were awarded. Done in moments, just follow the steps I outlined about because I tried for over an hour to get this quest completed so I think the problem was the bow itself. You need the Shadow Hunter Bow equipped for the quest to be completed.
