Was enjoying the game until I got to frozen wild
Every mob in this area has at least double the HP of their base-game counterparts for no reason, and they all take less damage from everything you do. Each small group of trash mobs feels like a boss fight which is really stupid. And of course you can't override most of it.

It's a shame that combat is such a slog in this zone because I really enjoy winter-themed stuff and the story is cool.

Edit: After reading some of the responses I felt like I should clarify the specifics of my experience---> I was level 50 playing on UH when I got there, and as I started getting some of the FW gear I remember thinking that "this place feels like UH was tuned for people who already had FW gear". Reading afterwards I discovered that UH was originally a perk of NG+, meaning that people running FW on UH actually would have had FW gear. When they made UH part of the vanilla experience, they obviously never accounted for the massive increase in difficulty for FW.

Also, for the record I did end up beating the final boss, on UH.

...did you go in undergeared or something? It IS intended to be more or less endgame stuff.

Also: It's not for no reason. There's plot reasons for the robots being stronger.
I agree, the Frozen Wilds DLC came out after the game release and feels like it was targeted for end-game players (close to lvl 60). It may feel misleading for some players that it is unlocked so early. So I wouldn't worry too much about it. You can just leave it after game completion.

i went into that area on my first time at level 20 and came out the other end at level 42, the robots are tougher, especially the daemonic robots, but once you hit the weak spots, they go down as fast as any other robot.

as others have said .... the frozen wilds is supposed to be harder .... if your struggling just drop the difficulty level

All you need is a ropecaster and tripwire launcher, tie down robots and place blast traps, they go down in seconds.

I went in not maxed out of the PS4 and PC play through with little problems. Take advantage of your weapons and gear. Make sure all have appropriate mods for them. Use the terrain to your advantage. Plenty of my kills are from places were they can't reach me. Hit their weak spots. Use appropriate ammo types for whatever they are weak to as well. I have died many times even maxed out because I wasn't paying attention to what their weaknesses were. It's a game that rewards for preparedness over going in like a mad person.

Lol took me like 15 minutes to get rid of that final boss with its 80% resist to explosive damage.

Ridiculous.

Not the scorchers or the frostclaws, which barely break 100 damage on a fully-decked tripcaster.

You seem to be over reliant on the tripcaster if that's the case.

Elemental attacks exist for a reason.

I just found the tripcaster to be the most fun thing to mess around it and most effective taking down any enemies in the vanilla HZD, i can google in 5 minutes what the best weapons and tactics are to beat the dlc. Game becomes a cakewalk, same goes for Dark Souls that people call "hard".

Anyway, will checkout the dlc tommorow, got a few things left to do on the base game.

The Level 30 recommendation is there for a really good reason. Definitely have some good weapons and outfits when you go.

My first time in the FW if i remember, i cheesed it a bit by using max stealth armor to farm the areas blue gleam so i could get the adapt precision bow to pick apart enemies from a distance while stealth armor is equipped you can just triple stack anything to death while constantly moving. only using a rope-caster (hunter lodge version) to tie down those (mainly scorchers for me personally) that actually were able to find me. i just stacked sticky bombs on those i pinned and nothing survives. uses a lot of blaze, but that easy to farm at the first hunting ground you encountered in the base game. just use those harvesting arrows on dead grazers and you still get six blaze a pop when you shoot them off.

i was max level before i went into the fw and had all the best gear/mods and weapons that the base game provides. however i know many people don't grind out the game like crazy or want to. but the fw was not "harder" to me then the base game, but it was more tedious probably due to my own play-style and the tendencies of the machine to constantly stay right on top of you after engagement however that dont matter if they cant locate you lol.

"this place feels like UH was tuned for people who already had FW gear" so true honestly once you get the gear weapons and mods you can just power though any fight in fw lol
