Transfer save file from GOG to Steam? Possible?

Hi, just a quick recap of why I want to know this, I am not one for buying games right of the bat because, well, I don´t have lots of money to waste so I usually "test" the games by being a pirate, and if I do like the game, I´d go and buy it.

So, I was playing the game and totally forgot it was pirated for a good chunk of the game, but now I want to buy it on Steam and be able to just continue where I am right now because it has been several hours of gameplay. I do plan on replaying it but would rather do a NG+ than a completely new run.

TL;DR: Can I export my save file from a GOG and import it to Steam without the effort defeating the purpose?

Yes, it's the same game, and this is super easy. You'll have to get to the first checkpoint as child-Aloy, so the game saves for the first time and your settings etc. are saved (otherwise, you'll have to go through the intro movies and setting language etc. over and over), but once that is done, copying a savegame is a primitive operation.


However, you do realize you could buy it on GOG, right? It has the exact same achievements and support.

Yeah, I know I could buy it there but I kind of like having most of my games on the same platform, and the Steam Link is a plus (I know I can launch any game from anywhere on Steam Link too). Plus, tomorrow there´s a Sale starting so fingers crossed.

Why not buy the GOG version and download/install it? you will not have anything to do with your old saves, except play them!!!

Horizon Zero Dawn saves data in the same location on Steam, Epic and GOG, according to PCGamingWiki.

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Horizon Zero Dawn\Saved Game\

So if you still have your saves on your PC, you can just install the game on Steam and probably play it like nothing has ever changed. No copy-pasting needed.
