If you already have 3-stat dmg mods (pretty rare) or high 2-stat mods you can easily spot this on the 3-slot tripcaster.
The visual clue for reaching the cap is a full bar.
Btw. please do not follow modding guides blindly. Every mod setup is for a specific use case.
Oh and 4 instead of 3 pristine coils need 1 more playthrough.
It's called Adept weapons, my tips for you if you haven't play NG+ UH difficulty is after you beat the game once in any difficulty you choose you'll have ability to create a NG+ Loadout.
Now when you wanna try to play the NG+ don't choose UH difficulty right away but choose Story, in this story mode you gather all the Adept weapons and armors that are available after you have all Adept weapons and armors then you can create a new NG+ Loadout.
Now you can choose NG+ UH, this time your loadout is the most powerful weapons and armors in the game and UH will no longer that hard to beat.
But it takes time for you to get the achievements.
My mods for Sharpbow is all handling, 4 handling mods. I hate waiting for the bow to aim or reloading to two or triple arrows, the damage still huge if you hit the weak spots of the machines.
Never having trouble defeating bosses like Deathbringer, Behemoth or Helix.
And for the Banuk Champion Bow I'm using 4 freeze mods and for the Banuk Striker Bow I'm using 4 fire mods.
Tripcaster 4 damage coil mods (my Adept Tripcaster have 2,5k damage each it's max damage that I can get it's full bar), Blast Sling 4 damage coil mods, Ropecaster 4 handling mods.
I had considered this, but this doesn't make sense because if 3 pristine coils maxes out handling, then why would people keep suggesting a 4th mod as having more handling on it?
Also based on my research, the UI lies about max stats so just because you have a "full bar" doesn't mean you've reached the max potential of a particular stat.
Your generic advice about not blindly following modding guides blindly is sound, but I'm looking for very specific answers in this case, which you haven't satisfactorily answered yet.
If the handling already full before the 4th mods then don't add another handling mod, you don't always have to follow what other people suggested just use your common sense.
This demonstrates that the display screen lies about what actually happens to your stats.
The whole reason I'm asking is because I don't understand why people make the suggestion to put in 3 pristines + a handling, if it is believed that the first 3 pristines already max handling. What's the reasoning for it? Is it just bad reasoning, or is there something I'm not seeing?
So i'm inclined to think it's bad reasoning.
Btw. that stat issue with oufit weaves was fixed in patch 1.40.
You're doing too much researches makes you confused, just choose whatever mods that suit your play style.
- 153% damage -> hard cap is 150%
- 141% handling -> hard cap is 200% -> you need another 60% handling, which can only be done by using a handling coil

Wish you had answered earlier, but thanks anyways.
It turns out Iazzick was very wrong about it being a waste to put in 3 pristine coils in a weapon, yet he was the one warning about not following modding advice, smh.
