question about selling stuff

Is it 100% safe to sell things where it says the only use is to sell to merchants? I.e. there are no hidden uses that I wouldn't know about otherwise. (different than when it says can be used to trade to merchants).

No , Hearts , braids , are also req to buy certaian higher lvl items , Machine cylinders stuff found in debris , and excess resources and low quality mods are fine to sell . 80 % of what you collect/pick up is used for crafting upgrades or special purchases . It,s best not to madly sell off resources and rare mods you may need them .

Hearts and braids and such have other uses listed, I think he's referring to things that have only "selling for metal shards" as their use. Yes, you can safely sell those (e.g. ancient rings). If it says "trading with merchants" though, that means it's required to purchase certain things.

If it says "Sell to merhcants for shards" only then it's safe. But if there's "Trading with merchants" mentioned it means that the item is also needed as a currency to buy upgrades from merchants.

However, once you completely eliminate (or figure you don't need more of) all the things you can purchase from merchants that use "trade with merchants" resources, then they too are free to sell freely.

Visit a high level merchant first (like the one in Meridian or most Merchants in the west and northwest) to see what you could buy.
Also if you want to play the DLC and NG+ - keep about 2 hearts and lenses from the exclusive machines you'll encounter there.

In NG+ almost all outfits and a lot of weapons will receive an additional mod slot. So you will probably buy a lot of that purple stuff a second time.

tl;dr: Save some hearts (2-4) from machines you have trouble fighting or just dont want to farm again if you're thinking about playing NG+.
