I found some help by messing with Windows' spatial sound settings but the real fix was replacing my old Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium sound card with something newer. It fixed all the sound problems I was having AND the occasional crashing.
Apparently, HZD uses some pretty fancy spatial sound processing that my old sound card just couldn't handle. I never had any problems with it before but it just wasn't up to the challenge. I replaced it with an Asus Xonar card and it fixed everything.
I had this problem once too...
You need to go into settings and change the audio output device. The game does not always automatically follow the system output device.
I've tried doing that SEVERAL times.
But I love my X-Fi and my 5.1 setup can sound sublime!
Dunno about scoring a new sound card coz of one game though.
But who nose, maybe new sound cards are beyond sublime
This port is still full of tons of issues even after the year and a half of patches.. insane.
Edit: Yes, we do. I tried working around it with 7.1 downmixing or "sonic for headphones" garbage, but all solutions still didn't have proper sound.
The only way to play this game properly is to use non-X-Fi cards. Incredible.
I also learned Realtek hasn't released a driver since 2017, and their driver page downloads at 30KB/s, What a consistently awful company 15 later.
