RX 6800 XT - Extreme stuttering at startup
Hey folks, I recently upgraded from an RX 5700 XT to an RX 6800 XT.

My other Specs are:
i9 9900KF
ROG STRIX Z390-F
32 GB Ram @3600
ROG 750 W PSU

Now everytime I start the game without letting the shader optimization finish (it takes very long, longer than with the 5700 XT) the game stutters heavily for about 10 seconds and then some more randomly in the next 20-30 seconds.
Even when letting the optimization finish, there are sometimes stutters in the first 2 minutes, sometimes not. Later on the game runs rather smooth with very rare microstutters.

I would just shrug it off as a result of the confusing shader cache issues this game has, but I am somewhat confused because the obviously weaker 5700 XT card never showed such behaviour, even when not letting the shaders optimize.

I run the game at 1440p with everything maxed out. But even 1080p with everything low produces the same stuttery results.
The 6800 XT has quite some coil whine in H:ZD and it goes silent whenever stuttering appears.

Soo, I would be interested if others experience this phenomenon as well or how your game behaves at startup. Maybe there is even a solution to this :-)

Have you tried to disable Win 10 overlay? I read similar issue in other threads and seems that can help to solve

Yes, I have it disabled. As well as any other overlay. Unfortunately it makes no difference.

reinstall your gpu drivers and wipe the old ones

I actually did a fresh installation of Windows recently, where I cleanly installed the gpu drivers (disconnected internet, disabled microsoft updates).

nothing is ever optimized for amd cards, 5700xt and i stutter at times too

Wasn't there downgrade of the graphic driver recommended for certain AMD cards? Or has this been fixed in the meantime?

Downgrading the graphics driver was worth a shot, but unfortunately made no difference.

I am experiencing somewhat similiar behaviour on an RTX 3070. The game/driver just needs a few minutes to have certain assets readily available in cache. After that it runs smooth as butter. Maybe slightly annoying, but certainly not a dealbreaker.

Hmm... Same GPU, CPU and mainboard. No stutters at all so far. I play the game maxed out... but without Fidelity FX CAS.

The same issue after I shift my GPU from RTX 3070 to RX 6800XT...

I had this issue early on with my rx5700. There was a guide somewhere on steam with recommendations like turning off the steam overlay and Windows 10 game mode. But I think a combo of HZD updates and AMD driver updates ultimately fixed it. Interestingly enough when I was having the issue increasing the resolution to 4k actually helped reduce the problem along with turning off Anti-Lag, Chill, Image Sharpening, and Enhance Sync.

You lost power and gained vram. In exchange for substantially worse driver support and worse ray tracing.

Oof, dude. Oof.

Actually my windows is freshly installed. Wouldn't leave that one out ;-)

As I said in my Original Post, the stuttering is only in the beginning and afterwards the game runs quite fine.

So this seems to be something, some players experience and some don't, regardless of hardware. (Like the infamous Shader Optimization running every time for most and for some not.)
In the end it is surely a problem rather annoying and doesn't break the game.
Thanks for your answers, guys :-)

@Seamus: Btw Userbenchmark is definetely not the best source for comparing actual performance of hardware.
Here is a link to a ratings list of current GPUs that a German PC Hardware Site did by running standardized Benchmarks of 20 modern games in 4 resolutions on them: https://www.pcgameshardware.de/Grafikkarten-Grafikkarte-97980/Specials/Rangliste-GPU-Grafikchip-Benchmark-1174201/
Considering the RTX 3090 ranks at 100%, The RX 6800 XT ranks ten percent above the RTX 3070.
