gtx980m ?
Anyone tried this game on gtx980m laptop gpu ? I am planning to buy this game and I heard that the performance is improved since patch 1.10 , I can't find any benchmark online with patch 1.10 on my gpu so if anyone can confirm that gtx980m with i7 4710 hq and ssd can yeild 40-50fps in 1080p on original medium settings ?

I don't know exactly how your GTX 980M compares, but on my GTX 970 (Desktop) the game is running quite fine, about ~41 FPS average on 1080p and mixed Original/Ultra settings. I can get 50 FPS average with the Favor Performance preset.

If you want to compare, you can always do a 3DMark TimeSpy test (it's free) and look on the Graphics Score. My GTX970's Graphics Score in TimeSpy is ~3374.

Gotta be a little careful. GTX "M" series GPUs are not always directly comparable to their desktop counterparts.

For BOSS, try to figure out how much VRAM your laptop has for your GPU. To do that, use GPU-Z:

All desktop 970's have the same 4gb(3.5 technically) of vram.

my gpu has 8 gb vram

8 GB? You're pretty much good to go. The game likes to have at least 4 GB, so just make sure your drivers are up to date and you have about 100 GB free space on your chosen Steam drive. :)

I just tried the GOG copy of the game from my friend on my laptop , the benchmark shows average fps of 51 but the actual game runs mostly with 45-50fps with minimum fps being 35 in hugely crowded areas in 1080p all settings set to original except anistropic filtering and textures set to ultra. Also I installed the latest drivers for my Gpu , honestly I expected more performance out of my gpu since gtx980m is far more powerful then the base ps4 and the base ps4 runs this game at 30fps locked with 1080p . The in game benchmark is not the real indicator of the performance and its pretty much useless.

That's actually not bad FPS for your hardware. The 980M is ancient in terms of technology and performance and weaker then the Desktop version of the GTX 770. The minimum requirements state a GTX 780 which is a massive difference. And their min specs is for 1080p 30 FPS.

So I'd say your expected performance is dead on.

Actually gtx980m is faster then gtx770 desktop & is similar in terms of performance to gtx780 desktop according to digital foundry video , gtx980m is a little bit slower then gtx970 desktop but much fater then gtx960 desktop , also the gtx980m is maxwell architecture comes with 4 & 8gb variants unlike gtx780 which is kepler , doesn't fully supports Dx12 & has only 3gb vram . Because of lack of proper Dx12 support on gtx780 textures also flash in HZD according to benchmarks online all keplar gtx 7xx cards have flashing textures issue . Most newer games require more then 3gb vram due to which gtx980m beats gtx780.
Actually I was expecting more due to the level of performance the base ps4 provide in this game considering the weaker hardware used in the consoles.
Also the fps difference between low and ultra is not huge like other games , going from low to ultra only yields 6-7 fps max .

No, what I posted was correct, and was based off Digital Foundries results. And this is not a PS4 game, far from it.

The PC release has higher tri models, better textures, massively higher reflections, dynamic foliage etc etc.

And assuming you're talking about this video?

Where it shows it gets no where near a 970 can almost keep up with a 780 as long as not much action on the screen.

I stand by my statement, a 980M is antiquated in performance for this game and your performance is on par with the hardware. Especially since you're also limited by the CPU at the same as well in that laptop.

Pc has higher graphics when graphics are set above original preset i think , digital fondry said original preset is the same used in ps4 pro and ps4 soo idk , my main point is that fps differrence between low and ultra is not huge as we get in other games , dropping the rez also doesn' t helps much but anyways thanks for ur input , hope gpu prices drop soon so i can built a desktop , time for an upgrade
Komarimaru Aug 2, 2021 @ 3:43am
Ya, GPU prices are rough, totally agree. I was fortunate enough to build my niece a dream PC for x-mas last year, before crap hit the fan. Now, I can't upgrade my own, without paying triple the cost of the hardware. And way I see it, a GPU is not worth 5 of my car payments lol.
