Are you trying to ropecaster it?
While useful, that's not what I was talking about. Buy a tripcaster. It sets explosive trip wires once you get the second rank variant(carja tripcaster).
Get critical strike and the skill that makes it easier to stun enemies with heavy attacks. Dodge the Sawtooth, then hit it with a heavy attack and hit it with a critical strike. Repeat this a few times and it'll be dead.

I even need more than 10 hits to bring down a "horse" if I stay on bow.
I can do damage if the target has enough "blaze" I can shoot but after that even hits to the eyes don´t do much.
@seamus: No, no ropecaster. I used a tripcaster and I tried the hand placed traps too.
Personal favorite perks
First ones -> Lure call+Silent Strike combo (you can easily farm the small robots in the initial areas, in order to stock on Metal Shards and Blaze) //
Concentration (slow time while ads arrows, it's a no brainer).
From there, I would invest into Concentration+ /Double/Triple shot
(ofc get the pre-required ones)
Also Gatherer/Scavenger/Ammo Crafter (you need to be up with your resources if you get Double/Triple shot) and make the most out of arrows crafting.
Craft the pimped resources bag, and the one that allows you to
hold more arrows for each bow.
Later on -->Tinker in order to remove Weapon Coils and Outfit Weaves from gears and sell them for some metal shards.
Personal weapons setup:
- Banuk Hunter Bow with slots filled to max Fire dmg (keep in mind that fire works really good on humans too) --> use this to hunt food too.
- Banuk War Bow with Ice/Electrical/Corruption/ (slots filled with Ice dmg and 1 Handling),
cuz you want that bow to be ready and shot arrows at a decent pace, in order to apply that freeze as fast as possible.
- Banuk Sharpshooter Bow (filled with all Dmg bonus & 1 Handling both as high as possible)
This is the ONE that will allow you to do massive dmg with Double/Triple shot --> Precision Arrows
- Tearblaster (I play on UltraHard, Tearblast arrows are nerfed)
but its efficacy it's the same in every difficulty level.
This lovely tool will ALWAYS remove a part in 1HIT ,but you need to get
personal and close, cuz it's basically a big@ss sonicwave shotgun.
A nice combat trick -> if you nock in advance
3 fire arrows / 3 ice arrows / 3 Precision arrows, you can pull out a combo like this
1 - Shoot a [Triple shot]-> fire arrows, possibly set an enemy on fire
2 - Quickly switch to War bow, and fill that freezing meter to max
with [Triple shot] -> ice arrows.
3 - Change to Sharpshooter, {turn on Concentration} and aim at a weakspot with
[Triple shot] -> Precision arrows for massive dmg.
Repeat steps as needed by your actual combat environment and target.
All seasoned with the occasional Tearblaster, aimed at a part that you want/need to remove, or a protected weakspot in order to expose it.
I personally like to use the Banuk Stealth armor (can't recall its name atm) and fill in some resistances Outfit Weaves and 1 Stealth.
Keep in mind that those Banuk gears are all from the DLC area, but you can get the shadow versions to fill in the gaps, before you'll be able to acquire them.
Hope this can help you.
That's what I've suggested, in more a detailed way, two replies above #20
And yes I can bring down some robots by placing traps all over the place and luring them into it.
But with bows its like shooting solid granite rocks. The arrows nearly just bounce off.
Set them on fire before.
Atm I guess you don't have any Handling Wepons Coils to boost your Sharpshooter bow 'aiming speed'
Sharpshooter bow, imho, it's best employed in these occasions:
1 Target is unaware of your presence
(reason why I've told you about the outfit in my #20 post)
2 Target is under the effect of a disabling effect (fire, stunned, or even better frozen) only at that point you'll have the time to land your nuke.
Sharpshooter bow requires a bit of setup, that's it.
Use Concentration, but that, it's like telling you to drink a glass of water if you'r thirsty
EDIT: Just out of curiosity, are you using your Focus to scan an enemy, so you'll be able to mark/see the weakspots (displayed as yellow) for a bit of time even after you've close it, and shot those Precison Arrows at them, right?
If an enemy is stuned I just spear it as it deals tons more damage than my bows.
If it is burning it´s takes damage from fire. Thats fine, but to set it on fire I use traps. No way to cause this with the bow on an enemy thats worth it (= not a horse or watcher).
Freeze I haven´t got by now. :-(
Sure at least it should be a Sawthoot
#12
Sorry, no.... :-(
But I use weakspots as often as I can.
I can blow them up on a Strider, Grazer, Lancehorn, etc. but the yellow part on a bellowback, scrapper or sawtooth don´t do much.
And as I said before once all blaze canisters are gone and its still alive im back to "granite rock mode" (what is really anoying if there are just 15% hp, nothing left to aim for)
Also keep this in mind, weakspots are protected, you need to peel off the metal cage that cover them, then land the required elemental arrow in order to be effective.
Also don't forget about the Tearblast arrows - check the bestiary - some components once removed, will disable a machine function, making a combat scenario easier for you.
EDIT -> Any weakspot that is protected by a metal cage, it's always weak vs a certain elemental dmg, so keep that in mind, plus those tiny red dots on a machine are, ofc eyes, once you've frozen an enemy a triple shot there will rekt them, it's not showed via the Focus, but it works like a charm.
I aim for eyes if nothing else is left. It dosn´t help. :-(
But thanks for the help. I´m done for today. I have no Idea whats wrong with me or my game.
The positive side is I´m now able to bring down a Ballowbag with the spear alone as that damn bows do nothing and there was no other way. :-)
